Albert Pike and Lucifer

While browsing the Internet for materials related to freemasonry, I came across “The morals and dogmas”, the monumental work of Albert Pike, a famous American Masonic writer of the 19th century. Surprisingly enough, this voluminous text is mostly advertised via anti-Masonic sites(e.g. here), who sometimes even post the whole text only for the sake of one quote, which is meant to illustrate poorly hidden satanic inclinations of A.Pike and, hence, the whole freemasonry (see). Here is the quote:

“Lucifer, the Light-bearer!  Strange and mysterious name to give to the Spirit of Darkness!  Lucifer, the Son of the Morning!  Is it he who bears the Light, and with its splendors intolerable, blinds feeble, sensual, or selfish souls?  Doubt it not!”

Comments around the quote usually say that Lucifer is praised here as a Light-Bearer of Freemasonry. But most of the time the quote is considered to be so self-explanatory that it is given without comments. Apparently I started looking for what another party has to say. I was able to find only feeble and indirect defence. Masonic defenders say that Pike was an Episcopal Christian, that he was interested in all kinds of spiritual knowledge, that his leadership was limited with a only few states, that his books are not a dogma for freemasonry and are not in official use since 1974, etc. They also complain that A.Pike is a controversial figure who did damage to freemasonry and offer awkward explanations about how the word ‘Lucifer’ can be understood. This kind of defence seems only to confirm the fact itself that A.Pike was flirting with dark forces.

Having read all that, I almost accepted (as probably many other readers did) that A.Pike was at least occasionally looking at Satan as a source of inspiration to unleash man’s own spirit, in the style of today’s LaVeyan Satanism. However I was perplexed by the fact that a few other places where Lucifer is mentioned in Pike’s volume sounded quite in line with normal Christian theology, and also by the fact that in other Masonic texts I browsed I could not find any references to Lucifer at all. If Lucifer is of any importance to these guys, could they at least mention him somewhere? While double-checking this, I made accidentally one more time a word search in ‘Morals and dogmas’ and naturally stumbled again upon the infamous quote. But this time I bothered to read the text around it. The result was quite shocking: I could not even suggest that the meaning of this quote changes so much when you read the whole paragraph. Here is how it looks:

The Apocalypse is, to those who receive the nineteenth Degree, the Apothesis of that Sublime Faith which aspires to God alone,  and despises all the pomps and works of Lucifer. LUCIFER, the  Light-bearer! Strange and mysterious name to give to the Spirit of Darkness! Lucifer, the Son of the Morning! Is it he who  bears the Light, and with its splendors intolerable blinds feeble, for traditions are full of sensual or selfish Souls ? Doubt it not!  Divine Revelations and Inspirations: and Inspiration is not of  one Age nor of one Creed. Plato and Philo, also, were inspired.  The Apocalypse, indeed, is a book as obscure as the Sohar.  It is written hieroglyphically with numbers and images; and  the Apostle often appeals to the intelligence of the Initiated.  “Let him who hath knowledge, understand! let him who understands, calculate !” he often says, after an allegory or the mention  of a number. Saint John, the favorite Apostle, and the Depositary  of all the Secrets of the Saviour, therefore did not write to be  understood by the multitude.

In the first sentence A.Pike directly says that mason-candidates of the 19th degree (to whom this chapter is addressed) must aspire to God alone despite the works of Lucifer. Sounds familiar, doesn’t it? Now having the context before my eyes I saw clearly why  the name of Lucifer appears in all capitals in the next sentence – because the name itself puzzles A.Pike. He knows that ‘Lucifer’ means ‘Light-bearer’ in Latin and he is simply surprized why this sort of name is used for the Spirit of Darkness. He assumes that his reader knows Latin and understands the question. This naming of Satan as a ‘Light-bearer’ is indeed weird, but it was not invented by A.Pike. It was used by the Church for centuries since its first appearance in Vulgate, the Latin Bible. The next sentence says that Lucifer’s light can blind (seduce) the weak ones, which is again a fairly common idea. ‘Doubt it not!’ is making the statement yet stronger – yes, says A.Pike, indeed his false light can distract those who are sensual and selfish. His allusion to Lucifer is only natural in this place because he is talking here about the book of Revelation. Further A.Pike goes on with in his eclectic semi-mystical style mixing in one bowl the Apocalypse (i.e. the book of Revelation), apostles, Philo, Plato and God knows what else.

So the main meaning of the famous quote is a simple and natural question: why the spirit of darkness is called Lucifer = Light bearer? This question is hard for us to understand because we assume that the name ‘Lucifer’ is only one of the names of Satan.  I don’t know Latin, but I studied Dutch, so I know that in Dutch ‘een lucifer’ means only ‘a match’. This inspired me to start looking at the ethymology, and eventually I found that ‘Lucifer’ in Latin means a ‘Light-bearer’ (lux = ‘light’, fero = ‘to bring’). But indeed why? Now that I understood Pike’s question, I wanted to know the answer.

The answer came through  the Catholic Encyclopedia on-line, which I assume to be the ultimate source on the topic. It says that the word ‘lucifer’ was often used to mean Venus – the star that shines in the morning. It is used a few times in Vulgate to indicate “the light of the morning” (Job 11:17), “the signs of the zodiac” (Job 38:32), “the aurora” (Psalm 109:3), and even Jesus Christ himself (2 Peter 1:19; Apocalypse 22:16 ). The only reason why we use it as a devil’s name is an allegoric story retold in Isaiah 14:12 about one of the Babylonian kings falling from his throne as the morning star is falling from the sky. This passage was used by some interpretators as a Biblical proof of the popular legend of a fallen angel, which originated from other sources. St. Jerome, who translated the Bible from Hebrew and Greek into Latin, apparently used the word ‘lucifer’ just as another word for ‘star’ or ‘light’ in a number of  completely unrelated places. St. Jerome had no idea that one of these passages would give rise to another name of the Devil! The story of a fallen angel is sitting so deeply in our minds, that most of us do not realize that the Biblical evidence to support it is so shaky.

So the answer to Pike’s question is simple: the name ‘Lucifer’ = ‘Light Bearer’ is a result of misunderstanding, of misinterpretation mixed with somewhat unimaginative translation. I wonder if he would pose this question at all if he knew the modern answer. As a by-product of my little research I came to an interesting conclusion: the story of a fallen angel with a strange name, made so famous through a number of well-known artistic and poetic masterpieces, is based on misunderstanding! There is no direct Biblical evidence to support this story – the only passage on which it was based was originally meant to indicate something else.

“the only passage on which it was based was originally meant to indicate something else.”
Light is frequently used in the Bible to denote knowledge and understanding as in the case at John 12:35 where Jesus is personified as “The Light.” In regard to Mr. Pike’s perplexion as to why Satan is referred to as a bearer of light, I should greatly like to ask him if he were familiar with the passage at 2 Corinthians 11:13-15 where the concept of Satan’s deception as a bearer of light is clearly explained. For further understanding of the Bible’s use of the word light, as well as an explanation for it’s application to angels both wicked and just, please see an “Exhaustive Concordance” of your translation of the Bible.

      Dear Bev,
Thanks a lot for a thoughtful comment. You are right of course in a wide sense, but it still seems to me that historically the name Lucifer came from the translation of the quoted piece in Isaia. Although, I could be wrong of course …
      Thanks again for your thinking!

      • yhwh says:

If you translate the name lucifer back to Hebrew it simply means ” the fool “

      • craxd says:

No, you are quite right. If one read the Tanakh, or the Torah, which is translated into English, by a Jew, one will not find the word lucifer in any of it. The word was as close as St. Jerome could come to the translation. Lucifer did not become Satan, until after the KJV Bible was published, since they copied the word, lucifer, from the Latin Vulgate, and this was due to an uneducated Anglican minister, who said that since Isaiah 14:12 sounded similar to a verse in Luke, why, it must be the same! To give you an idea of the quality of ministers at the time, I will quote Bishop Burnet, writing in 1713.

Later, Bishop Burnet said that those who came to be ordained as clergymen were “ignorant to a degree not to be comprehended by those who are not obliged to know it.”

At the same time of the Anglican KJV idiocy, both Calvin and Luther tried to tell the Anglicans they had it all wrong, and that they had mis-translated several verses in the Bible, but some did not listen, and now we have the Latin word, lucifer, meaning Satan, by the uneducated. Even the Catholics and the Jews tried to tell them better.

Bible.org has a good article on it, named; “Is “Lucifer” the Devil in Isaiah 14:12? – The KJV Argument against Modern Translations”. Also, one can see the correct translation of Isaiah at ‘The Complete Jewish Bible’ on the Internet.

Albert Pike was poking fun at the Anglicans, even though he was a protestant and an Episcopalian. However, that church came from a protestant founder that knew the correct definition. Plus, Pike was a little better educated than a huge number of ministers today. On top of that, we have about three quotations floating around, laid to Pike, which were written by Leo Taxil. It is a shame that Pike died, before Taxil admitted to the hoax, in 1897, before the Catholic clergy and the press in France.

It is odd that the Vatican would do this as early as 300 AD, considering they had two bishops AFTER that date who were named Lucifer. Even 1300 years after that year, the Catholic church (and many others) continued to use that term as a reference to Jesus Christ.

I (along with most interpreters) think that this passage is not about Satan. For one thing, although Lucifer is a traditional name for Satan, people base that tradition solely on this passage. Nowhere else does the Bible call Satan Lucifer.

      • Robert Cox says:

Actually, Frank, the name was always ‘Lucifer’ in the Vetus Latina and Vulgate (Latin), in the King James the name Lucifer was used in specific verses, even though the King James is an (Jacobean and some would argue of Elizabethan influence) English translation.

Now if we could just stick a post in the sand and draw a biiiiig circle around it we just might be able to figure out this whole “Son” of God thing. *cough cough*

The answer to all life’s issues are in The Word of God (the HOLY BIBLE). Life and truth itself is encased in the Word of God. Jesus Christ is the ONLY LIGHT. HE is the ONLY TRUTH and only in Christ Jesus is there LIFE. Masonry is nice, but salvation and true deliverance is thru the Son of God-who is Jesus Christ.

I truly believe that Mr. Pike was trying to tell us more than what the eye meet: that’s the way in which a commom pagan symbol like the star of venus which has an orbit like a star, and you can look it up! Became a evil icon thanks to the misteachings of the church and the ignorance of the true meaning of the adoration of nature. Furthermore, condeming that same believe to consolidate and capitalize power over the masses.

“The day has come when Fellow Craftsman must know and apply their knowledge. The lost key to their grade is the mastery of emotion , which places the energy of the universe at their disposal. Man can only expect to be entrusted with great power by proving his ability to use it constructively and selflessly. When the Mason learns that the key to the warrior on the block is the proper application of the dynamo of living power, he has learned the mystery of his Craft. The seething energies of Lucifer are in his hands, and before he may step onward and upward, he must prove his ability to properly apply energy. He must follow in the footsteps of his forefather, Tubal-Cain, who with the mighty strength of the war god hammered his sword into a plowshare.” [Manly P. A line out of first paragraph on Albert Pike and Lucifer says: ” who sometimes even post the whole text only for the sake of one quote, which is meant to illustrate poorly hidden satanic inclinations of A.Pike “.

This seems to imply your agreement with the idea that A.Pike had satanic inclinations…

If you do not agree with this however, I think it’s sensible to insert the word “supposed” before “poorly hidden”.

And so: ” who sometimes even post the whole text only for the sake of one quote, which is meant to illustrate supposed poorly hidden satanic inclinations of A.Pike ”

Thank you for the time and effort taken creating the blog, if shall help me get more information on Freemasonry.

      Dear Rustam,
Thank you for this idea. I will give it a thought. Actually, I gave this text to read to a few people and so far this piece was always correctly interpreted. • JoAnn Stevens says:

Here is an intense study on evidence that Pike uplifted Lucifer/Satan. It is from a world acclaimed lecturer and expert on the subject of Masonry. (see my reply above)

      • marioch303 says:

Walter Veith is hardly an expert on masonry, firstly he’s never been a mason. Secondly his critical thinking skills appear to be somewhat tarnished given his support for creationism and the flood. In fact he appears to be quite the typical conspiracy theorist, lumping as many organisations together as possible and hoping people will buy his nonsense.

Within a minute of him starting to talk he calls Freemasonry a secret society, first strike against his credibility, a secret society is one which hides itself and people do no know of its existence. It’s only been since the Nazis killed as many as 300,000 masons in the concentration and death camps that European masons have kept their membership private, and these days are becoming more open, marching in Remembrance day parades, having stands at county shows here in the UK. Not the actions of a secret society. We have things we keep private, but so do you, do you wave your card’s PIN about where anyone could read it?

Then he brings up a slide claiming that a load of groups that have no proven historical links are somehow all descendents of each other into a general “New Age Movement”. This all being based off of Gary H. Kah, whom he calls no small fish, I beg to differ, Mr. Kah seems to be such a non-entity that the only wikipedia entry about him is in French and just says that he’s a conspiracy theorist and anti-mason. The rest of the entries from google about him are trying to flog his book. An anti-mason with a book to sell, quelle surprise. Nor is he an expert in history, fraternalism or symbolism, Mr. Kah was a “trade specialist” for the state of Indiana.

Then Veith claims that Freemasonry sells whatever religion is prominant in the area. Utter nonsense, Freemasonry is secular in nature discussion of religion and politics is strictly prohibited. That is not to say Freemasonry is against religion, quite the opposite, atheists cannot become members, but it considers religion to be a private matter between the Creator and the created and about which it has no reason to enquire.

Then he calls Morals and Dogma the highest source in Freemasonry, at that point I, and about every other mason who’s seen this probably burst out laughing. Morals and Dogma was the personal musing of Albert Pike on comparative theology and Freemasonry, he states in the introduction of the book that it’s his own opinion and that anyone can disagree with it. Second to that Albert Pike was the leader of one jurisdiction of one side order, and was frankly roundly ignored by all the other jurisdictions of that side order, let alone the rest of masonry. In fact the highest rank Pike held, since rank in Craft masonry is superior to that of any side order, was that of the head of the library committee for the Grand Lodge of Arkansas, that’s it, he wasn’t a Grandmaster, he wasn’t even a Junior or Senior Grand Warden, he was in charge of the libaray committee for his state’s Grand Lodge. The only reason people think Morals and Dogma was as important as they believe is because it was so widely distributed in the Southern Masonic Jurisdiction of the Scottish Rite, simply because all members of the Rite got given a copy which then was pretty much used as a doorstop, but was the only masonic book most non-masons saw.

All those inaccuracies in under four minutes, and he didn’t even start speaking until almost a minute in. Frankly anyone who actually has been a mason, or deals with credible sources will discount Veith as just another conspiracy theorist repeating tired old canards which have long since been disproved.

  4. Chris Yost says:

I am a Free Mason. Brother Pike was a Mason. I would look at the facts here…..Masonry has changed DRASTICLY in the years…..WE DO NOT ACCEPT ATHIESTS, FOR NO ATHIEST MAY BE MADE A MASON. The Holy bible is used as well as the Quran or the Torah, depending on your religious preferences. NO satanic sybolism or terminology is mentioned in a lodge. Society is like the Catholic Church and how it criticized and for decades, ATTEMPTED to excommunicate catholics for involvment in secret societies. For example, the Knights Templar…. CHARGED BY THE CATHOLIC CHURCH to carry out protection of roadways in the Holy Land during and after the Crusades and protect religious structures…..NOW WERE KILLED BY Pope Clement by order of King Philip of France because HE and the CHURCH were in debt to the Knights Templar it would have been better to falsely accuse them of herocy, satanism, and other false wrong doing and trie and kill them then to pay them.

The church as society as a whole are, through they’re OWN IGNORANCE, prejudice to ANY organization that does not publicly state they’re pruposes, ideals, doctrine, etc etc because they want to know everything about anything…..We as mason are open that’s why the way to become a mason is “2B1ASK1” unlike how in older times it was more hard to do so. The Catholic Church has the BIGGEST secrets of all. Why can;t I be a tourist and I AM A ROMAN CATHOLIC, born of Irish-Catholic heritage in Philly, and served 5yrs in Army over seas, I cannot goto the Vatican and get access to the Catecombs of the Vatican OR the Vatican Archives….Why is the Catholic church HIDING documents, relics, artifacts, etc? I goto church. I PAY at church the weekly envelopes that goto the church. I went to 13yrs catholic education from grade school to high school graduation. Why can I NOT see my investment?

You see the correlation here? BEFORE stating FALSE TRUTHS first look at yourself!

    • albertpike says:

      Dear Chris,
Thanks a lot for coming and commenting – you are the first freemason to do so, I should have had a special prize for you. Well, we all have our little secrets, don’t you have some of your own?
My observation of the Catholic Church is that it becomes more and more people’s Church, getting more protestant in character. The difference between English-speaking Catholic service and, say, Anglican or Episcopalian is disappearing – we sing same hymns, liturgical texts are almost identical. If you are Catholic, that’s wonderful, brother! Help them build the future, don’t focus on the past. Future is exciting, past does not exist any more – why care so much about the skeletons these old men are guarding in their closets? This is human, let us be forgiving and look at ourselves – as you said!

    • Tony Nguyen says:

      Chris,
The very first question I would want to ask you is did the Spirit of God lead you or tell you to become a mason? and before you answer just remember the only sin not forgiven is blasphemy of the Holy Spirit so please be careful with your answer.
Next, b/c there are levels and degrees in masonry the higher you get the more knowledge you receive. But with the teachings as you get higher how much of it really is from the Word of God the Bible itself? Do they still teach you to believe all things written in the bible? I have talked with many masons, master masons, and even shriners and they give me the same answer. which is they dont believe that scripture says. Do you not see that as disturbing? The Bible is the Word of God (John 1:1).
We have Christ as our savior. We do you need anything else more? Why do you feel that traveling east will allow you to a better person? Where in scripture does God tell us to become a mason or to travel east? Where did Jesus ever claim himself to be a mason? where does anybody ever write about seeking Soloman’s secrets and his temple? Only the true deceiver would do such a thing. Yes Satan himself disguised as light. Brother I just pray that you become wiser and grow in the Word of God and not get caught up in the teachings of the masonic order. (Ezekiel 8:16) Who do you think those 25 men are representing facing east? Prophetically east means the exact opposite in the bible that the masons teach.

      • albertpike says:

        Dearest Tony,
The person, who gave me this essay, was not a mason. Calm down, it is not about Jesus or the Holy Spirit, it is only a modest note on what Albert Pike was thinking. Is it a mortal sin to read a book, written by a mason? I read the book of Mormon with admiration, and I am still not a mormon. Why someone cannot just be interested and ask questions?
Do we need anything else besides Christ? Well yes, we do: we go to school, many of us have University diplomas (which takes enormous time end effort), some even do Ph.Ds, many marry and have kids. Most of us have cars, and many live in comfortable single-family homes, although a studio would be enough to survive. Many of us have hobbies and some are in varying degrees obcessed with physical self-improvement (sports, jogging, fitness) and still think (probably wrong) that they are good Christians. Come on, we need a lot of things besides our faith in the Savior!

      • Jude says:

Whatever your brand of so called- Christianity or Fundamentalist paranoia you adhere to and the only thing the ramblings seem to propagate is your total disregard for an organization that merely tries to create better men and citizens through the use of morality and conscience using the backdrop of Judeo-Christian teachings. Nothing more or nothing less. Of course those who cannot see beyond selfishness and zealotry will debase and malign at every opportunity an organization that only asks for one to be moral and upright before God and profess a faith in God. No sectarian judgements, no absolutes, no doctrine. Meanwhile, society as a whole has moved “beyond” God , Atheism is a badge of honor in these days.

I would ask this, couldn’t it be said that anyone not following the original “Church” be it the Orthodox, Coptic, St. Thomas Christians (the perhaps only original Christians from appox 52 a.d.) is perhaps mislead and heretical? After all what makes a John Calvin , Martin Luther, Jim Jones, David Koresh, et cetera the latest incarnation of the true direction of the Christian faith? What does your brand of Evangelic Christianity teach? that salvation only comes through Christ, and the only way to Christ is via your local Pastor/Preacher?

      • NiklussiX says:

Brilliantly said. The low level masons have no idea what freemasonry is really about. The Catholic Church has its secrets and freemasonry does as well. And the simple fact is that in modern society the name lucifer has become synonymous with satan regardless of its origins. The term ‘light’ when referring to lucifer means knowledge and the term ‘light’ when referring to Christ means the hope of the world and the truth. Personally I believe that satan was most beautiful and powerful of Angels by the intent of God but satan fell. Even the most beautiful can rebel. I also believe this term ‘illuminati’ refers to being given secret knowledge from lucifer (the angel of light). I personally don’t buy the term illuminati these days. There are simply rich scumbags that worship satan and do his bidding as satan is the ruling spirit of this world.

    • Erin says:

Chris, I believe the answer to the Vatican question is simply that they, too, are an organization bound by secrets. And silence. If you read in the Bible about the temple and other churches throughout Europe becoming corrupt via Satanic and Luciferian influence, then it is easy to understand that not one Temple, not one church, not one government, not one organization, secretive or not, is immune to the infiltration of evil. When I say evil, I mean, in the lowest, cruelest sense of the term, as evil has no boundaries.

    • Gene Hall says:

It is amazing how many people will read and listen to comments, watch youtube videos, comment themselves, about Albert Pike, when they will not take the time to read or even listen via recording to Morals and Dogma from beginning to end, which actually takes less time than the hours spent on hogwash. Do people ever consider that they are being lied to? About Albert Pike? Try studying and learning about someone yourself, instead of listening to others. Then decide for yourself. More than likely you will become disgusted with the garbage on the Internet from people with too much time on their hands. I love Morals And Dogma. Having read the book three times and listened via recording for times.

  5. JD says:

Very interesting comments and ideas. But the power of the Word of God is and has explained all things, in times past and even to date you can turn to the Word of God to find your answers but we sometimes can’t and won’t accept the truth so we search in the world through myths and others such false words to find facts. But the facts can never be compared to the truth of the Word of God. The enemy will always to the day we die want to imitate the Glory of God His character His words but, it is a false light “gross darkness” and the world is filled with that. We as believers must stand at all times and spread the Gospel of Jesus Christ pointing others to the cross never at “some higher knowledge” we all have an exparation date the only thing that does not is the Word of God, ideas and false questions will always want to take our attention away form the truth. But the truth will stand forever, the lie is only a lie untill the truth shows up. God Bless

      My Dear,
Thank you very much for this wonderful piece of preaching! I would never expect that this modest discourse on a very specific topic would be a source of inspiration for such an uplifting sermon. Make sure you don’t forget it before you come to church next time. God bless!

  6. Social Scientist says:

So I looked up the Corinthians quote that supposedly is so clear about Satan being Lucifer and I find it unclear and in fact echo Pikes point of view, that is self-contradictory to equate a Deity named after light with darkness.

”Satan masquerades as an angel of light” means he is not of light, just posing. So again, Satan is not Lucifer. Lucifer was/is a pagan sun god, that is all, so many want to make more of it. Cultures across the globe for millenia have sun gods, so what. Perhaps it has become synonymous with the light of reason, with which I would agree. Surely we don’t want to return to the dark ages of severe roman catholic oppression.

2 Corinthians 11:13-15 -For such people are false apostles, deceitful workers, masquerading as apostles of Christ. 14 And no wonder, for Satan himself masquerades as an angel of light. 15 It is not surprising, then, if his servants also masquerade as servants of righteousness. Their end will be what their actions deserve.

    • albertpike says:

      Dear Derek,
Thank you very much for an interesting thought. It is indeed true that Son gods existed for ages. Although Lucifer is supposed to represent a morning star, that is probably Venus, but definitely not Sun. Also, the masonic group is called, I believe, The Eastern Star, not The Morning Star. This group is not female, but mixed, designed for masonic families.

    • Jude says:

I was always under the impression that Lucifer being the “Light Bearor” or giver was a reference to his Pre-Fall status as what was believed to be an Archangel? The older books the bible barely mention Lucifer except for some of the approcyphal books such as the Book of Enoch etc. (?) Since Lucifer is merely a Latin term perhaps it was added in post Nicean council ? In school i remember a Jesuit professor who taught us that the resemblance of the modern bible has undergone about 300 changes since early Christian times. The “Word of God” has always been subject to what groups of clergy, leaders, scholars have decided should be included. Of course there people out there who take the Gospel quite literally. Just as there are some who take the Koran quite literally, or perhaps interpretively.

      • mark hyat gaga says:

If the modern bible has undergone about 300 changes, how or where can I get the ‘original’ bible?

      • Bringe_of_Terror says:

I may be wrong but I view Lucifer is the original Angel of Light. Gods most beloved Angel, the one who was the bearer of knowledge and wisdom. With light being a symbol if knowledge this would make sense to call him Lucifer & from what I read he was the only Angel to be given Free Will unlike other Angels and Lucifer used that to his advantage so god punished him for his actions and for that he became Satan (adversary = opposition) and cast out of the heavens.

To me then Lucifer / Satan are symbols of Knowledge / Wisdom / Free Will / Individuality / Success etc. These stories just fill me with realization and motivation to strive for success.

People also say you’re going to Hell if you don’t follow in Gods path and well look at what Lucifer / Satan did. Went his own way and got punished. What? Punished for Freedom. For me even if not physically true this makes Lucifer the savior of humanity, he set us free, he gave us knowledge like Prometheus stealing fire of knowledge from the gods and giving it to the humans.

All theory for me but motivates me.

  7. I just read the book Witches, written in 1962 by an anthropologist. He proves through early church registries that Lucifer was turned into Michael the Archangel because he was so popular, they had to do something to represent him. Yes Lucifer is the morning star in some traditions, and the Morning Star being a name of the female Masonic group would tend to add to this being Pike’s interpretation. But earlier than that the name was simply the the bearer of the light. Venus is not very bright, makes more sense that it is the sun. The statue of liberty is literally a bearer of the light too…So what? I don’t understand who Satan is, it seems like a made-up boogey man to me. Satan is a way to vilify any opponent, is a deity to represent the collective internal bad side of the populace. Satan is a christian deity. As a non-christian, I can only defend my ancient ancestors’ deities, take them back from those who slander them.

    • Satan could be what our ego has created so we have an enemy.

    • Stephen Paul says:

The only people who do not know that Satan is real are actually serving him, whether knowingly or not. There are only two teams in this world: Christ and antichrist. If you’re not serving one, you’re serving the other.

When you accept Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior, sincerely asking for forgiveness for your sins, and repenting (turning way) from them you will receive God’s Holy Spirit, by which the truth can be known. Satan is known as the father of lies, the master of deceit and the author of confusion, so there is nothing he likes more than for people to think he doesn’t exist. The more people don’t believe in him, the more power he has. Who has not noticed the rise of evil in the world. What do you think is the cause of that?

      • Xero says:

I hope the world does not contain many like the kinds of you.

I am a christian, and I do belive certain things that is directly dependent on that – but I also understand it is a BELIEF, and not ipso facto – it is faith in something, a belief in something.

What you are saying is condemning all other religions, faiths. Christianity is not ment to condemn – it is ment to show love and nurish – that is NOT what you are doing, now repent and change your ways 🙂

Can add that I am a free mason…..

        /// X0 …

  8. Chris Yost says:

Tony. I am a catholic. Are/were you a mason? Secondly, if you are not a mason do you know that the motto is “Taking good men and making them BETTER men.” I do NOT believe everything in the bible because through my 13years of CATHOLIC education, and common sense as well as thinking for myself, MEN ARE FLAWED, why else is ther 4 gospels? All the same PRINCIPALS, but not the same text. God gave us free will. I merely used my free will to better myself. I am also a paranormal investigator as a hobby, does this make me wrong? Seeking truth? Knowledge? Remember King Solomon was the WISEST KING in the bible. He prayed for WISDOM. Hence the story about the two women and the baby he was willing to cut in half to end a dispute to make the mother who accidently smothered her child into giving up the child to it’s rightful mother. Do you believe in freedom? Liberty? The statue of liberty is a LUCIFER. Watch the show on history channel “Decoded” it will explain why, because LUCIFEr means “LIGHT BEARER” don;t we as Gods’ children seek to “walk in the light”? I am not a satan worshiper. The holy bible has masonic writings in it, or we as free masons use the bible passages, look in book of Ruth. NO ATHIEST CAN BE MADE A MASON. Therefore if you worship Lucifer/Satan what have you, Lucifer/Satan was and is NOT a God. We use the metaphor of light to mean knowledge. Knowledge we use to better develop ourselves.

Now in regards to your preaching about the bible and religion and such. What is a priest? A priest is a modern day representation of the 12 Disciples (sp?). Now am I to believe in my religion as a catholic when the priests are involved in decades of SEX SCANDALS? Child Molestation and such? I am also a ICE agent involved in fighting Child Pornography and Child Exploitation. Should I give a get out of jail free card to priests over the “average joe”? NO. The pope. Former Hitler Youth, ergo, NAZI.
The catholic church has MORE SECRETS than masonry. As my first writing, look at the Vatican Archives. Why can’t your everyday catholic of person off the street see the archives? Why did the church, in its corruption have 2 popes from time to time. Yes I know history, Rome and France has popes because kings wanted a yes man. Men are flawed, so is religion. I am a catholic. I am a Free Mason now a 2nd Degree. I have learned more since my last post and you can say what you will, but I am not nor are my brethern satan worshipers. You can reference Albert Pike all you want. You will not change my mind. I made my peace with God. And I hold him HIGH still do. Do I goto church. NO. Why? I do not need a building and need to pay every week to attend church. Remember what Jesus said, “when two or more gather in my name” that is a church my wife, daughter and I say our prayers we help the less fortunate when we can, and we from time to time will goto church. Please I welcome all bashing and ignorance towards Freemasonry.

    Anyone care to retort?

    • Charles Brown says:

You may be surprised to find that there are actually 5 gospels and not 4. I say this because I believe that you have to consider Revelation by St. John the 5th gospel. I do not have the time or space to go into in depth explanations however, the reason for this goes back to Isaiah. In the original paleo hebrew it spoke of tsemach or the branches of the Messiah. The five branches spoken of are actually contained in the representation of Virgo who holds 5 branches in her hand. Each branch is to represent a fulfillment of prophetic scripture. Christ as the Son of God, as the Son of man, As the servant, As the sacrificial lamb, and as the triumphant King. There were multiple gospels to fulfill scripture, not because they were error prone humans.

    • Ron to the East says:

As a person who has obtained the sublime 3rd degree, I agree with you brother! I definitely know that there are flaws in every society and MAN has caused them, not masonry!

    • C. H. says:

I admire your candor and passion for the craft. Unfortunately I had already burned myself out on Hermeticism by the time I ever actually decided to check out a lodge. The zen center is enough to make a better man out of me I think (if anything it makes me a hell of a lot more centered).
Theres a reason there were 12, not 14 not 20, but 12. Remember when Moses came down from that big mountain with some stone tablets and saw his people worshiping this random Golden calf that just happened to get transported into the desert? Why the hell were they carrying this giant fucking gold plated bull in the middle of the desert? And how did moses just “not see it”? Taurus the bull -> aries the ram (remember the rams horns?) -> age of pisces (jesus was a fishy S.O.B.)
      https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Axial_precession
      12, 24, 36, 48, 60, 72, 84 ~90 – 4 years of rotation around the pole axis, 4 seasons… 90 & 4? 360…
You just stick a big stick in the ground and draw the sun around it every day to figure out that there are roughly 360 (364.25) degrees in a cyclical rotation. Understanding this you could easily calculate given a little bit of ancient astronomy and folklore what the subsequent equinoxes would be and when they would occur.
Simultaneously if you pick up a tarot deck and check out “The High Priestess” the names of those two funny looking pillars Jacob and Boaz will make a lot more sense 😛
Also that there are 22 cards of the major arcana maps out the qabalistic tree of life and every set of correspondences you could ever want. A familiarity with ye olde bible helps, but learning the hebrew alphabet and gematria helps even more.

Christ Yost Second degree is still Blue Lodge. You guys are at the bottom of the barrel and have no clue what Freemasonry is really about! You are “portico Masons,” useful idiots so the org can uphold its “fraternal organization that does good works” image. Pike calls you guys the “profane.”

Read what DEFECTORS have to say. They TELL INITIATES into the 32nd degree that they are there to WORSHIP LUCIFER.

It’s been several years since you posted. Are you still second degree?

  9. It is my conclusion this solstice eve, that Pike was right. All the worlds religions have a return of the light holiday, which is a Luciferian doctrine.

    In love and light,
    Derek St.Clair.

  10. Chris Yost says:

Another thing came to my mind….Follow along all…..Especially you nay sayers and “haters”, if the Freemason, a FRATERNITY is all wicked and bad as many of you come to believe by ignorance from the church and personal biases, then I assume that you ALL would agree with me that ALL fraternities are evil minded? The Delta Sigma Phi fraternity at colleges? The FOP (Fraternal Order of Police)…It’s a fraternity. They all have they’re various “secrets” or ways of acceptance into them.

Why does everyone precieve that Freemasonry is a “devil” worshiping occult? We are simply normal ordinary men. Fathers, Sons, Brothers, Grandfathers, etc….Some are policeman, fireman, salesman, I was a soldier.

Speaking of which. For Tony, you were quick to throw at me religion and the bible. I do NOT live by the bible. I already stated in my previous message reasons why. Does this make me a “sinner”? Does it make me a bad Catholic? NO. Because let me give you a REAL WORLD EXPERIENCE here. The bible says thy shall not kill…..It’s in the Genesis with Moses and the 10 Commandments….Later on in the bible Jesus HIMSELF preaches when giving the parable about the man who was struck in the cheek turned his other cheek, he said in that collection of books and I can’t remember for the life me right now, but Jesus himself said, “An eye for an eye, and tooth for a tooth”. Now I was in the US Army for 5yrs. Been deployed to combat to Iraq. I’ve lost friends and soldiers of mine. As well as did my fare share of sending those saddistic, fanatical bastards strait to hell. Does this make me a sinner because I took several mens’ lives?……NO! I took several lives to PRESERVE hundreds. But of course your interpretation of the bible I am just a low life murder I guess?

To further answer your question about the spirit enlightening my decision to become a freemason. NO. I did it on my own. Of my own free will and accord I made the request. I am offering myself to the fraternity of my fellow mason and in doing so they are giving me the tools and instructions on how to better myself for my fellow man, service to GOD, COUNTRY, FAMILY, and of course, a distressed worthy brother. Where in there does it resemble Masonry doing evil and “Satanic” esqe things? Last time I check “Satan” was the Prince of Darkness which contradicts the Lucifer label since Lucifer means Light Beaerer, but you already know that from my previous writing.

So to clarify. NO God/Holy spirit did NOT guide me to make my choice to be a mason. More so it was God’s GIFT to me, FREE WILL which allowed me to think OUTSIDE THE PREVERBIAL RELIGIOUS BOX and I did my own “homework”, if you will on masonry before I entered upon it. I am a CATHOLIC, and a Combat Veteran. I chose to better my self, my mind, and my life. And Freemasonry has given me further knowledge and light upon how to do so. By putting GOD, COUNTRY, and THY BROTHER/FELLOW MAN above myself!

  11. Chris Yost says:

By the way, if you keep insisting Brother Albert Pike was a Satanist, that’s your opinion. He does however make some references to Lucifer in his writings, but guess what, he wrote that book for Scottish Rite Masonry. Not all masons are Scottish Rite. It’s a CHOICE! You can stay a regular mason, or you can seek further knowledge in the craft, no not witch craft or satanic craft, the masonry craft which goes back to days of the Stone Masons/Brick Layers, which I ironically was before the military a mason. Or you can join York rite or the Shriners. We are all mason with the same goal of bettering ourselves for our fellow man, God and ourselves and country. It’s just each side has it’s own ways of doing so. Shriners have hospitals, Scottish rite has hospitals, burn centers, Children hospitals as well. What Satanic Cult has such these things, as well as provide toys to needy families for children during the holidays? Please do tell……Inquiring minds want to know!

  12. but what I really think
Why is it that people keep equating Lucifer with Satan like it is the same thing. WRONG XXX. One is cold people in the north, revering the sun, the other is people in the desert hating it. If you were in orbit, you could quickly see how easily mans troubles with religion will be fixed. Grow, Evolve. Call it trans-human if you have too. Your own potential is the aliens from beyond that’s going to save you. In short, you are a Spacemonkey!
Upon peeling another layer of the onion off, I see now that Amen Hotep made the Egyptians change to worshiping Ra the solar disc. He was the original sun worshiper in the desert, he started this fight, and is obviously from the north.
    Honesty shines like a beacon.

  13. THE TRUTH says:

THIS ALL IS VERY SIMPLE TOO UNDERSTAND…. SATAN WAS NOT A POSER, HE LOVED THE WORLD & HUMAN KIND ALSO…JUST ONE PROBLEM HE WANTED TO BE GOD!! THE REASON WE CALL HIM LUCIFER..WELL IS BECAUSE HIS NAME WAS CERTAINLY LUCIFER “BRINGER OF LIGHT” HOWEVER WHEN HE DISOBEYED ORDERS FROM GOD, HE WAS CAST FROM THE HEAVEN, MAKING HIM BECOME THE SPIRIT OF DARKNESS “SATAN” WITH THIS BEING SAID..PLEASE KNOW THAT NO MAN WILL EVER BE GREAT ENOUGH TO UNDERSTAND THIS!! NO REASON TO BE CURIOUS..BECAUSE YOUR MIND IS NOT CAPABLE OF UNDERSTANDING AND GRASPING THE MYSTERY OF GOD.

  14. gravitypress says:

Thanks for chiming in The Truth, but Satan and Lucifer are two entirely different things!!

    • albertpike says:

Well, this deserves some discussion. In the passage from A.Pike, which we are discussing here, Lucifer is Satan (the leader of the world of dark spirits). I think the point of the whole essay is to say that Lucifer can also mean something else, and in this sense you are right. So the word “Lucifer” used as a proper name can mean not only “Satan”, but the most popular usage is “Satan”. Or, more precisely, when the word “Lucifer” is used to denote a dark spirit, it is equivalent to “Satan”.

  15. thinkforyourself says:

this was a good discussion. i’ve learned a lot. i especially enjoyed the hosts excellent responses to all posts. it is difficult to comment in detail, but my opinions of all this dialogue are steeped in the belief that with enough thought anything can easily be looked at as either true or false, believable or unbelievable – take that as you may. it is good to see so many thinking about so much that often gets little attention. thanks for occupying my time on a boring tuesday evening!

  17. kingcrowofoctober says:

I was really captured by this blog. Here’s what I have to propound. Firstly, I believe Albert put his heart and soul into the delivery of his message and assemblage of materials related to the mysteries . To a smaller degree and (IMHO) his word-smithing could have contained the less controversial verbage. Now that being said, I am betting that he chose what he wrote and how he wrote it (i.e. using capital letters or not) and portions having two meanings. Unfortunately, the way I see the content going would be about Satan not Lucifer, as we have been taught to interpret it. Who knows what references he had that made him phrase it that way. The other intended meaning could have been Venus the morning star. Between them, speaking in allegory his message skillfully communicated in the tradition of the schools of mystery.
Secondly, Chris Yost is a fraternal brother who is spot on with his comments.
epilog~ Albert Pike was not a Satanist but was on another level of spiritual insight than the common man of yesterday and today.
I am a 14th degree York Rite Mason and can sleep very peacefully at night.

  18. gravitypress says:

What I offer is a broader view, by including more history. Masons are famous for their reverence of ancient things. Lucifer predates Christianity by thousands of years. Is it impossible to wrap your head around that? Or can Lucifer only be placed in the context of the last 2000 years? If you choose to do so, then you are willing a belief and there is really no point in debating someone who’s argument is based in necessary irrationality.

    • lishep says:

Gravitypress, Christians do not place Lucifer in the context of the last 2000 years, they place him in the context of being right there at the very beginning, and straight through till the final judgment. Christians accept the Old Testament writings as well as the New Testament ones.

      • albertpike says:

I think we, Christians, are not quite sure about when he (Satan) appeared “right there”.

      • lishep says:

Albertpike, conventionally speaking, it is generally agreed in Christian circles that the serpent who tempted Eve in the Garden of Eden was either Satan himself, or perhaps a serpent possessed of Satan based on Revelation 20:2.

However, those who do not want to accept that line of thinking still have to accept his presence in the first two chapters of Job, a book that some people argue is the oldest in the Bible.

Also, the name Lucifer itself comes from the Old Testament, not the new.

The point of my comment was to expose the faulty accusation that Christians only have a 2000 year old context on Lucifer (Satan). When your accepted scriptures go back at least 3400 years, and you trust those scriptures to give you a context from the beginning of creation, the accusation of a 2000 year context is simply invalid.

      • gravitypress says:

So Christians project their beliefs through time, taking it over, like Mormons save their ancestors? I was not talking about the the land of belief, but the the world of Reason. Lucifer physically predates Christianity. period.

and I’m going to toss this one up too, because it’s it’s really stupid and ridiculous that people just won’t do the research…

Shaytan-satan. lS of the ancient Arabic Djinn class mythology. They just so happen to be the Anakim. Not to be confused with the Anunnaki.
0f course, mythology(s) are what’s done to peoples’ histories when invaders come on in and infiltrate and bastardize the cultures and the peoples that live there. And please understand a bastard is not an illegitimate child it is a mongrel breed or race. Please, people you want to do your research properly – first start off by researching definitions of words, phrases and terms and their etymology and maybe you might see how a book like Holy Bible gets ‘developed’ over time (lots of revisions happen and additions get printed lots of redactions and mis-interpretations and translative errors.) Please, also know a little extra freebie here to point out what I’m saying…

…The Codice Sinaiticus has been in the British Isles for over 1600 years. The Vaticanos catolica from which the 1611 King James version was translated didn’t even appear in Mainland Europe for more than 200 years afterwards and almost 300 years after it was commissioned through the nicean council at their second convenience in Carthage in 323ce Constantine’s polity was Camino Nana recognize that the second coming Messiah for reason why Vaticanos catolica was ever written.
14,800 discrepancies between 1611 King James and the Sinaiticus also known as the Sinai Bible what shows been housed in the British museum for like forever.

and one more little freebie just for the hell of it…

      Helios biblios Greek,
      means sunbooks.
      Holios bibliatica Latin,
      means incomplete book set.
      Holy Bible English,
      means sacred text.

King James 1611 had 80 separate texts entered into it instead of 66. (ahhh…, six – that ‘human’ number) ln 1686 there was an agreement between the Catholic church of Rome and the Protestant Church of England (which was basically broke.) The ‘arrangement’ was a loan of a lot of gold through the bankster controlled Vatican Bank to the church of England. So, came a time for more revisions and redaction. And by the way the Codice Sinaiticus is a product of the Essenes (headed by one Yishiya ha’Mashiach – until his impalement-by-crucifixion-murder ordered by the Roman authorities at the behest of Jews and herodias lll in 83bce Easeus {named after Ea and Zeus} aka : Jesus – was done in by the same manner and method and for pretty much the same reasons and pretty much by the same groups in approximately 17 or 67bce, no real way to know for certain. Those would be Jubilee years, by the way folks) in part as well as the remainder of the Kryst’al ‘alKryst Consortium of (N0N-monotheisic) monasteries in the ancient Middle East. This would have included the Hermetic order as well. Again please, also keep in mind for Hermes like Zeus and Ea were N0T gods they were guys. We may thank the likes of Homer and 0vid and Heracles for their development of the classical Tales of old and as well we may think the likes of Darius and Pliny the Elder and Pliny the Younger for their bastardizations through mythologization of the New Testament as well for why we even have gotten goddess worship in the so cold Christian civilized Western civilization(s.)

  29. Masonry Documentary Maker says:

As my nickname says, I am a Free Masonry Domentary maker. In my search for documentation about the topic I came across some interesting issues about Satanism which I humbly think should be taken into this thread about Lucifer.

The cult to Satan appears to have its roots in ancient Babylonic Civilization and the adoration of Baal. In such cult, Baal’s mother was as relevant as himself. But it also appears this tradition might come from Ancient Egypt’s deities. Those deities would be Isis and Osiris. The point is Satanism seems to have survived through times by means of adapting to different religions and beliefs by changing its gods’ names but, somehow, meaning the same thing. I even read that the Virgin Mary being treated as Holy by the Catholics and not by the Christians might actually have its origin and reason in this very same way of adapting the Cult to Satan to different religions and times.

I don’t really know about that and I know I could have burned in fire for even suggesting this several centuries ago. What I do know is that Human beings have tried to impose over each other along History by all kind of means. By wars, by manipulation of the truth, by deceipt, by alliances, by treason and by a long etcetera.

Another conclusion I extracted through many readings which have much more to do with Christianity than with Free Masonry and which I have carried out throughout most of my life is that one of the institutions which have most altered the truth (or the Truth if you like) is the Catholic Church. I am not saying it is the only one. All religions have something to hide under the carpet and I wouldn’t recommend having a peek at their closets if you really believe in what they tell you.

Having stated this, what really makes people believe their religions haven’t changed their dogma through times in order to adapt to human times and situations to make them more understandable or adaptable? I don’t think this kind of practices would seek spreading the Lord’s Word but to captivate more people for their cause instead. To what extent should people believe in religions which adapt themselves to historical circumstances with no regard for the Truth?
There’s proof about this in the Catholic Church which, for instance, has censored banned and hid when not destroyed all evidence of a Gospell written by Saint Mathew. By the way, there’s a very interesting documentary from The History Channel about this topic. This is not intended to be an attack to Catholicism, for I am a Catholic myself, but do not attend church. The only reason why I mentioned Catholic Church is my own ignorance about other Religions.

Some of you may now be thinking all this is unrelated, but it’s not. My whole point here wolud be that there’s a possibility Satanism might actually been infiltrated into certain Modern religions too and that Lucifer’s figure is hard to understand because it might have been included in the so-called Holy Writings along the centuries. Please, don’t be mislead by the Bible and other Holy Readings, for an important if not most of its contents have been rewritten by humans seeking to control other humans. Instead, take what they all have in common, their essence. When two people disagree about one same issue it doesn’t necessarily mean one of them has to be right. In fact, many times none of them do, because they both have taken their reasons and arguments to extremes and have lost all contact with reality. I think religions and their dogmas are a good system of moral laws of behavior, but churches do use their power to enslave people. We don’t have to look only at present times’ Islamism to prove this, but can also turn our own heads back to our own religions (wether they are Catholic and not Catholic Christians or even Hebrew) practises some five or six centuries ago.

So whatever your point is, try not to base it 100% upon a certain believe for these believes have been transformed, when not contradicted by the heads of their churches, in order to make us more controllable beings.

Think by yourselves. I don’t think God or whatever the Creator is will punish you for that. But I do think he/she will punish you for killing other human beings in his/her name. Then again, its only my opinion and I could burn for it in Hell or its equivalent in other religions.

Please forgive my poor English grammar and spelling mistakes, for I am an ESL speaker. And I also would like to apologise to those who might be offended in their believs by my opinions since my only intention is to make people view things from a not-totally-influenced-by-their-religion perspective.

  31. John says:

I studied the Bible just about 24/7 for about a year (possibly more). Every word, parable, and historical reference were made accessible to understand via the internet. I’ve searched through the original greek, studied patterns in typography/heiroglyphics, stone structure, etc etc… at this point I am an amateur anthropologist, and probably more enlightened than most. I started noticing strange things in the world that could not be explained, using the Bible as a reference, I eventually became “posessed” … having prophetic visions (which CAME TRUE), intense bouts of FEAR (not paranoia), eventually after careful study of a few key passages I realized what was going on. Satan is at the right hand of the LORD. The LORD is terrible like leviathan and behemoth. Satan is the Biblical benefactor of the world… though it is never so much expressed directly. When the right hand of the father is extended, peace and progress fill the land. Jesus is at the right hand of the father. Jesus is SATAN! Apollo, the SUN, the serpent that snakes through the skies. Prince of power of fire and air. JESUS CHRIST IS SATAN, the ANGEL. Not fallen angel. It clearly says in Revelation… DO NOT WORSHIP THE ANGEL WHO SHOWS YOU THESE THINGS. Ever since this Revelation of Revelation, I haven’t touched the Bible, and my life has returned to normal. Worship God, rebuke Satan! The LORD is Zeus…whose son is Apollo (Jesus). The PHOENECIAN LANGUAGE saved Moses and his people from Pharoah. The red sea is not the body of water we call the “red sea” today, the red sea is the multitudes of red-skinned egyptians, whom Moses parted politically..and walked right through as if on dry land (safe passage). All of the symbolism in the Bible is clearly explained, but it wasn’t possible to successfully understand without computer searches for symbolic definitions. Revelation to St. John was given to John on the Isle of Patmos… Apollo’s SHRINE. Apollo is satan, is Jesus, is the benefactor of the world (BUT NOT the soul). Organized religion is the TRUE satan worship! No I am not a freemason… I’ve studied extensively all aspects of the Bible which are possible to study, and came to this conclusion. Jesus is the SUN, aka Satan, aka the serpent. Ye are a den of serpents!

  32. John says:

Given this Biblical data… some elements of mythology and ancient science come to light. Even the names of the planets, namely Jupiter (Zeus) come to new meaning. The Bible says that God (NOT LORD) created the stars and lights (planets) in the heavens as SIGNS. If you do some research you will see that some interesting events happened in the skies around 0AD, involving Venus (the morning star), Jupiter, and the sun. Same goes for the timing of other Biblical events. Job was asked by the LORD (not God, but YHWH, most likely Zeus) if he knew the significance of Orion or the Plaeiedies… which we now know relates exactly to the Great Pyramid at Giza … Job’s home. Job was a slave, and it’s also interesting that we call labor work a JOB. Whereas a Career is a different animal. Very interesting stuff. Of course none of it can be proven or disproven until the Vatican opens it’s archive… which probably won’t happen until there is a “king of the world” as there was in the days of old. There are many more great historical truths and mysteries explained by the Bible, if only we stop listening to parishes and phoney baloney “whore of babylon” preachers. The first page of Genesis tells you DIRECTLY how to read the Bible and how to interpret its relation to the ancient world. It is undoubtedly true… however convoluted and shrouded in mystery and external lies. Don’t listen to your preacher… he knows not what he does. He will lead you into darkness.

  33. John says:

“Whosoever would decieve them, I shall repay them double.” My thoughts are that this has a different meaning than is commonly accepted. How can anyone who believes that America’s independence was granted by THE CREATOR, God, believe that the world should be ruled by a King of Kings and a Lord of Lords? Jesus is the depths of satan’s work. If you read the end of Revelation, it pretty much spells disaster for every single human being on the face of the planet… regardless of their belief. “Away from me, I never knew you” … seems a tad stone-hearted thing to say to someone who has worshipped you their whole life? No? If you are not a slave, you are not a Jew. You are either a gentile, or of the Synagogue of Satan… the whore of babylon… what was invented in babylon? Organized religion based on mystery. I’m truly deeply sorry if I have offended anyone, but this is what I have found to be true.

  34. Blatantly Rude and Honest says:

I see some very good points coming from both sides of the dialogue here. However, that is exactly it-two sides. You essentially have a conflict of interest that perpetually exists when a person tries to fully satisfy two master’s! You have two different paradigms, two different views, and despite your attempts to convince otherwise, Freemasonry and the word of God are not 100% compatible. Freemasonry’s greatest exponents teachings have not had the prolific influence on mankind as did the life of Christ either. I don’t recall Freemasonry promising salvation for free, or at all for that matter. Then again, salvation would have to be something desired to seek it to begin with. I’m not saying either is bad or good, I’m just taking the simple position that you cannot “fully” subscribe to both philosophies without some conflicting issues that will eventually rear their head. Then you have the “extreme” examples such as: “Do we need anything else besides Christ? Well yes, we do: we go to school, many of us have University diplomas (which takes enormous time end effort), some even do Ph.Ds…”. The Bible has never discouraged self-improvement, and has only encouraged the universal and basic principle of brotherhood as well. I have a myriad of issues with many organized religions and the social structure it creates, and many positive aspects of Freemasonry, but bashing one in order to defend the other is absurd. Any thoughts?

I’m into cosmology, and all comsmologists will tell you that Lucifer refers to Jupiter (its called the morning sun or the morning light, because it rises in the early morning, just before the sun does, and just ahead of the place where the sun rises).

Once you understand this, any thoughts of the word Lucifer referring to the devil just seem silly. But hey, conspiracy theorists need something to fuel on, so just let them have their fun – they are only wasting their own lives, nobody elses.

One only has to look at this passage from you qoute and research to find the truth, “The Apocalypse, indeed, is a book as obscure as the Sohar. It is written hieroglyphically with numbers and images; and the Apostle often appeals to the intelligence of the Initiated. “Let him who hath knowledge, understand!” The Sohar is also called Zohar(one of the books considered to be a jewish holy book) and is often qouted heavily by people studying cabbala or kabbalah. So are the people wrong to assume he worships Lucifer as the light bearer? Research is the key. I will not go into all the details but I believe you will find that alot of jewish mysticism does worship Lucifer.

I have been following your review on this subject.I am a Baptist and a 3rd degree Master Mason. I have been confronted about free masonry several times.I don’nt really know what A.Pike was trying to say but this is my opinion. I believe people should have free will and come to there on conclusion on such matters.
I do believe in using the Holy Bible as my guide I have as a Mason determined to defend it with my life.I dont buy every thing organized religion has to say,if I or my ancesters did we would not have a United States of America today,We would all be Catholic slaves. The Catholic Church has been trying to tear down Masonry for a long time because it took millions of dollars and millions of brain dead slaves away from them.God wanted us to have a free will that way we could choose him freely. That is what masonry is all about FREEDOM.You can be a mason and be any religion you want.Masonry can be used as a tool to bring people to the true light Jesus Christ.Even though we do not talk about religion in the Lodge others there can see our light and ask us how we live or what we believe.
As far as the subject of Lucifer we dont need to get tied up on it. I think by what I have read it was an opinion that was written in allegory.I have read the passage in Isaiah and I think it was talking about a Babylonian King.Yes I would agree that Satan also had a lot of the same attributes.I also believe that most powerful evil men are powered by Satan. He could come to you as Fred but still be full of Satan. The Anti Christ will not use the name Lucifer I promise you he will look beautiful and appealing.I think maybe this is what Pike was trying to say.Dont be deiceved keep up your guard.
The last thing I have to say here is America was founded on Free Masonry prinicples freedom of religion, seperation of church and state, and a right to own your on property and elect your own officials.I do believe the country should be ran like a Lodge. We all live in the same country but we have different beliefs,we should however though be able to set down in a room no matter what and make decisions for the whole of the country without getting dead locked over our personal beliefs.I do believe every one should have a religion. I just dont want any one pushing theres on me.That is what happened in the middle ages.I do talk to people about Jesus when the opportunity arises but I always let them know that is a free choice of theres and I will help lead them to the true light(Jesus) if they would like me to.I always tell anyone who wants to be in a lodge that being a Christian(being born again) is more important than being a Mason but it will make you a stronger Christian and it will make you more eager for knowledge.
    Thanks for your blog,
    S Peacock

  41. M. De La Concepcion says:

Not to stray from the topic, I feel that we would need to first define or clarify a few facts. The first being the origin of the name or word Lucifer. Lucifer, as a name, was originally a latin word (Lucem Ferrem) for light-bearer. This name was given to the planet Venus that can be seen during the day and tends to be very bright. Now the name Lucifer is not mentioned anywhere in the old testament or any Hebrew text. In fact it was through a translation that the Name Lucifer was even mentioned which was an interpretation of a passage in the book of Issiah (14 3:20) pertaining to the fall of the Babylonian king. As an interesting note, the passage itself properly translated would mean Day-Star or Morning Star which during that part of history was not unusual for mentioning a high potentate. Even within the old as well as the new testament Jesus refers to himself as the Morning Star (2 Peter 1:19).

The King James version, which is by far the most popular variation of the Bible so far, had some interesting translations that to this day can be argued extensively but lets not stray from the point. None the less, I think it is a given that the name Lucifer is associated in modern times as being Satan. In the case of Mr. Pike I would say that he was trying to be overly intellectual and was trying to show off his knowledge of the origination of the word Lucifer itself. But does that make Masonery overtly Satanic. Using a quote from my Grandmother, evil is what evil does and I do not see any evil coming from Masonery. I could go into the history of the Catholic Church (I am Catholic by the way) and the horrible things that were done in the name of God, but does that make Christianity evil. I do not think anyone could support or would even want to support statement on the acts of a few.

The differences are few as it comes to religion and Masonery (which is not a religion). Secret handshakes, mysteries and rumors not to mention a plethora of look that is evil connotations. on both sides of the house. As to what Mr. Pike was trying to ultimately say I cannot clear derive from his writings that although colorful tend to be a tad bit overdramatic. Those of you who try to discern what God is doing or thinks is an insult to the religion you profess to follow, him being all knowing and powerful, and you only being human and full of faults. One of those greatest faults is casting judgment on others falsely.

Masons are not evil or worshiping anything what so ever in the long run. Masonery attempts, and very well I may add, to bypass all of those things that have caused so much pain and suffering. They accept all races, creeds, religions and yes political stances and find that all of mankind as worthy of respect and honor. They try to help one another and others in trying to better themselves and those around them. God is very interesting in the sense that we as man try to limit God and how he can touch us, and the taint of man and his struggle for power over others. We tend to bend the truth to fit our understanding of God to fit themselves or moods or the fashion of things.

God is bigger than that, he knows more, understands more and is more than any of us. He touches us in a multitude of ways and anyone limiting him to only one book or one person is not only foolish but ignorant. I do not profess to understanding God and his ways but I am open for the good he shows me in all of the colors I can see and knowing that there maybe colors that I cannot discern but they are there. Masonery is just another color on the pallet which hopefully trys to do good things. For those of you who try to beat others into submission I can only say that I hope that one day you truly submit to God and try to understand that the underlying message needs to be followed.

  42. Derek Denton says:

The word Lucifer predates the Latin language, so people please stop couching your views in that erroneous context. It is in fact derived from the Proto-Indo-European root *leuk-, “flashing light”,

Have you heard about The Taxil Hoax? Probably why this thread even exist.

The Taxil Hoax: Lucifer’s alleged connection with Freemasonry

Léo Taxil (1854–1907) claimed that Freemasonry is associated with worshipping Lucifer. In what is known as the Taxil hoax, he claimed that supposedly leading Freemason Albert Pike had addressed “The 23 Supreme Confederated Councils of the world” (an invention of Taxil), instructing them that Lucifer was God, and was in opposition to the evil god Adonai. Apologists of Freemasonry contend that, when Albert Pike and other Masonic scholars spoke about the “Luciferian path,” or the “energies of Lucifer,” they were referring to the Morning Star, the light bearer,[24] the search for light; the very antithesis of dark, satanic evil. Taxil promoted a book by Diana Vaughan (actually written by himself, as he later confessed publicly)[25] that purported to reveal a highly secret ruling body called the Palladium, which controlled the organization and had a Satanic agenda. As described by Freemasonry Disclosed in 1897:

With frightening cynicism, the miserable person we shall not name here [Taxil] declared before an assembly especially convened for him that for twelve years he had prepared and carried out to the end the most sacrilegious of hoaxes. We have always been careful to publish special articles concerning Palladism and Diana Vaughan. We are now giving in this issue a complete list of these articles, which can now be considered as not having existed.[26]

Taxil’s work and Pike’s address continue to be quoted by anti-masonic groups.[27]

In Devil-Worship in France, Arthur Edward Waite compared Taxil’s work to what today we would call a tabloid story, replete with logical and factual inconsistencies.

    thanks

  43. Masters Trowel says:

Below is the most well written and thoroughly researched analysis of Pike’s quote that I have ever read. It’s an excerpt from “A Pilgrim’s Path” by John Robinson (…a book worth reading for anyone interested in Freemasonry. The whole Leo Taxil incident is also very well covered in this book)

Regarding Pike and Lucifer: …”I set out to learn for myself, and what I learned may upset many Christians, who have to be told that the King James version of the Bible, which they revere as the literal, precise, correct work of God, is not always so. Some of the error in it was quite deliberate, including the biblical designation of Lucifer as Satan, along with the concordant story of a fallen angel. It is difficult to anticipate the reactions of some believers on being told that there are gross mistakes in the King James version, but, please, do not throw this book across the room in disgust until you have read a bit more.”

“Lucifer makes his appearance in the fourteenth chapter of the Old Testament book of Isaiah, at the twelfth verse, and nowhere else: “How art thou fallen from heaven, O Lucifer, son of the morning! How art thou cut down to the ground, which didst weaken the nations!””

“The first problem is that Lucifer is a Latin name. So how did it find its way into a Hebrew manuscript, written before there was a Roman language? To find the answer, I consulted a scholar at the library of the Hebrew Union College in Cincinnati. What Hebrew name, I asked, was Satan given in this chapter of Isaiah, which describes the angel who fell to become the ruler of hell? The answer was a surprise. In the original Hebrew text, the fourteenth chapter of Isaiah is not about a fallen angel, but about a fallen Babylonian king, who during his lifetime had persecuted the children of Israel. It contains no mention of Satan, either by name or reference. The Hebrew scholar could only speculate that some early Christian scribes, writing in the Latin tongue used by the Church, had decided for themselves that they wanted the story to be about a fallen angel, a creature not even mentioned in the original Hebrew text, and to whom they gave the name “Lucifer.””

“Why Lucifer? In Roman astronomy, Lucifer was the name given to the morning star (the star we now know by another Roman name, Venus). The morning star appears in the heavens just before dawn, heralding the rising sun. The name derives from the Latin term lucem ferre, “bringer, or bearer, of light.” In the Hebrew text the expression used to describe the Babylonian king before his death is Helal, son of Shahar, which can best be translated as “Day star, son of the Dawn.” The name evokes the golden glitter of a proud king’s dress and court (much as his personal splendor earned for King Louis XIV of France the appellation, “The Sun King”).”

“The scholars authorized by the militantly Catholic King James I to translate the Bible into current English did not use the original Hebrew texts, but used versions translated from the Catholic Vulgate Bible produced largely by St. Jerome in the fourth century. Jerome had mistranslated the Hebraic metaphor, “Day star, son of the Dawn,” as “Lucifer,” and over the centuries a metamorphosis took place. Lucifer the morning star became a disobedient angel, cast out of heaven to rule eternally in hell. Theologians, writers, and poets interwove the myth with the doctrine of the Fall, and in Christian tradition Lucifer is now the same as Satan, the Devil, and – ironically- the Prince of Darkness.”

“So “Lucifer” is nothing more than an ancient Latin name for the morning star, the bringer of light. That can be confusing for Christians who identify Christ himself as the morning star, a term used as a central theme in many Christian sermons. Jesus refers to himself as the morning star in Revelation 22:16: “I Jesus have sent mine angel to testify unto you these things in the churches. I am the root and the offspring of David, and the bright and morning star.”

…”The emphasis here should be on intent. When Albert Pike and other Masonic scholars spoke over a century ago about the “Luciferian path,” or the “energies of Lucifer,” they were referring to the morning star, the light bearer, the search for light; the very antithesis of dark, satanic evil.”

Bu (Bael or Baal) – Lucifer
On – (Osiris) – The God of the Dead

Lucifer retained the devilish looks in character from Zoroastrianism and it is true that the depiction of Satan is somewhat different (‘The Devil!’) but not entirely. Lucifer is the light bearer which means the Sun. But it is spirit invocation of the angels and demons (72 of them) from King Solomon’s Goetia that is prevalent in the Grand Lodges throughout Europe, again NORTH of the 33rd degree. There are also many anti-christs as opposed to one. The practice of the invocation of demon spirits is for direction upon rule, as well as capturing a spirit and using it for one’s own ascension. This is what the Royal Houses of Europe, The Vatican and the Black Nobility are all about : Magician King Solomon and his Secrets. A few things have come up from these comments on this page that are wrong and need to be set straight.
    1. Freemasons are not evil, the people controlling them or at their highest heights are evil.
    2. Jesus is not god or the son of god (anymore than you or i am anyway). God isnt a person it is the creative energy of ALL that is. WAKE UP
    3. “Christians” aswell as Jews and Muslims really need to take a long hard look at what they consider “god’s word.” No matter how you put it, all of these books (bible, koran and torah) were written over a thousand years ago for a population of people with next to NO education about anything that didnt impact their simple daily lives. I am not looking down on them, this is just how it was. PLEASE get over the fact that these books have nearly certainly been changed for the purpose of control many times over since they were written and wake up and make decisions for yourself. You really think a 1000+ year old book has all the answers and completely relates to today?… well it DOESNT.

Do you want to be a better christian, jew or muslim? Well if you do, READ and understand your choice of book by YOURSELF. Learn from the stories and quotes from your book and apply those to your life today. All of these books at their core promote the SAME THING: Do to others as you would like done to you. Quite simple isnt it? But always remember take EVERYTHING with a grain of salt. i mean EVERYTHING, religious texts, news, mainstream media, goverment “facts”, all recorded history and anything else you can think of.

“Lucifer” has you all by the balls and is laughing at how easy it is to mislead you all. Stop being sheep following a thousand year old book to the letter, grow up, man up, make your own decisions and finish this life knowing you have spread love and positive energy for the benefit of our planet as a whole. Being a Freemason for 39 of my 60 years and a christian as long as l can remember, most of the anti Mason comments are from people who aren’t masons , have never been or have tried to gain admittence and have been rejected for some reason. That being said arguing with a person who has a preconcieved notion of anything isn’t going to result in changing their mind which by the way in the masonic” blue lodge” degrees one is taught this. The biggest fallacy believed is the notion of the misguided Mason who isn’t high up enough in masonry to know what the “higher up” masons are doing. The highest degree you can attain in freemasonry is the 3rd degree in yorkrite blue lodge. All other degrees in yorkrite, scottish rite ,shrine or other appendent bodies require a member to be a master Mason. Once a master Mason one can join all other bodies and with a payment become a member of all others bodies with the exception of yorkrite commandry “Knight’s Templar”. This body requires you to be a professing Christian unlike all others that basically require a member to believe in the Jewish , Muslim and Christian God of Abraham. No one man or Grand lodge controls freemasonry of any other nation or state. Those who bash masonry constantly refer to the 33rd scottish rite degree. Anyone who is willing to invest the time in scottish rite, do something significant enough in society and/or pay enough money can become one as long as the are a master Mason and 32nd degree scottish rite Mason. Every scottish rite Mason is a or can be 32 degree. I hope this somewhat informs a few of you who profess to know but are uninformed.

I too discovered what you wrote here on my own. Funny isn’t it that what many take as truth is mere misunderstanding.

Your calmness in the face of all these misunderstandings is inspiring. Thanks for posting this.

Having read many of these posts and the original post, it strikes me that:

    1. Many people ascribe great mystery and evil intentions wrt Freemasonry which are most likely bogus.

    2. Freemasonry is an alternative “religion” and, though it is claimed otherwise, is anti-Christian in that it supports various paths to God, whereas John 14:6 says
“Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.”

Freemasonry is not important. Faith in Jesus the Christ, the Redeemer, Lord of our lives, is important.

Hi all! I tried to finish reading all the comments here, and I didn’t notice anyone mention that that quote at the top of the page about Lucifer actually isn’t Albert Pike’s writing anyway. That was a snippet that Albert Pike gathered from a prominent French writer, whose name I’ll be glad to provide if anyone is interested. But for my 2 cents here, I thank God that we live in a time when we may speak our heart-felt beliefs and feelings about God’s plan for our lives, without fear that Church or State will send us to the flames or dungeon. We are all searching for God in different ways because we are all special ministers for His Glory. Even people like Mr. Pike who may seem to hold controversial views undoubtedly was searching zealously for communion with the Only One True God.
Thanks for taking time to listen and God Bless!

  54. John says:

Lucifer didn’t appear in the original texts to begin with. Isaiah, the only book to contain “lucifer” supposedly, was written in hebrew. Lucifer is a proper name created by combining 2 latin words, Lucem ferre. So it showed up when Latin was used in some form of translation. Most modern bibles recognize this error so they leave “lucifer” out of the newer translations.

  55. ralph says:

Lucifer is def a fallen angel according to deceased occultist Helene Blavatsky; in one of her books she states he is the true God and not the Christian God. She helped start the Theosophical religion/cult and her books have helped in casting doubt on Jesus Christ by stating Jesus similarities with pagan gods before him. Some of the info was partly true but alot of it was contrived but it her ideas inspired the creation of the Lucifer Trust company in nyc which supposedly was located at 666 broadway. The name was changed shortly after to Lucist Trust. I am not sure why but perhaps it was to help conceal the evil deity which it represented. I believe Lucifer is connected to light because of a passage in the Bible speaking about satan being able to come as a beautiful angel of light as opposed to the hideous horn figure we are shown. This may also be a good reason how he has been able to seduce so many into following him including Blavatsky. What is more interesting though is the connection the Lucis Trust has with the UN; the link of there site is on the UN website. When u go on lucis site u find all the writings of blavatsky and her associate Alice Bailey who talk about Lucifer and how he is a misunderstood and not evil but the source of knowledge etche…
One website I went on which blew my mind has a well thought out and written plan for a new world order with each religion, state and country of the world being represented. Its supposedly been offically sanctioned by the UN which is pretty scary when u read the info on the site which has new scriptures and ancient scriptures from the gospels to the gnostics. But the real kicker is the Treaty of Lucifer and Covenat of Satan which are basically one in the same but has a full dialogue of everything and anything expected of the people who sign it. The site is http://one-heaven.org/
The treaty of lucifer and its many many parts is here
    http://one-heaven.org/covenant/
Here is a few paragraphs from the Treaty:
“The treaty of Lucifer and the end of Hell
By this Covenant, by the will of God and the Covenant of One Heaven, Lucifer and our creators have signed an unconditional truce whereby they have ceased all actions against mankind.
Furthermore, this treaty ends the war in heaven between good and evil spirits that heaven shall be united as One Heaven.
By this treaty, all demons and all fallen souls are called to cease all negetaive and influence and assist mankind in achieving its positive goals.
In return, Lucifer and the greatest of former demons are now recognized and respected as honored Great Spirits of One Heaven, with all the privileges of such senior rank. Furthermore, all demons who relenquish their ways are now recognized as heroes, themselves eligible for election and entrance into One Heaven”

This is very scary and really took my breath away from how serious it has been written along with how thorough it is. Please tell me what you think of this and warn others by doing an investigation on it.

Enjoyed your piece very much. I suggest you google Roscoe Pound’s explication of Albert Pike’s philosophy– go to the Wikipedia, drill down to the cross-references and see Roscoe Pound’s analysis of Pike’s philosophy. Masons are at a minimum diests and most often Christians in this country, but they are philosophical protestants– no one can give you a Masonic catechism or Apostle’s Creed– these do not, may not, exist. You can choose a faith for this. There is nothing Satanic about Masons. I could cite you to the seven, more or less,Christian theological explanations of how it is that God is all good and graceful while there is indubitably evil in the world, and in man’s nature, but I would not understand them and neither would you. Good wishes, Mike

  57. DJ Psycho Steve says:

I look at the quote and see truth. I don’t think that Albert Pike is praising or elevating Lucifer here, quite the contrary, he is simply stating facts as per Lucifer’s goals and power over the feeble, sensual and selfish souls. Note that Pike states “Lucifer, the Light-bearer! Strange and mysterious name to give to the Spirit of Darkness!” Pike is giving acknowledgement to the fact that Lucifer is in fact the Spirit of Darkness. The Spirit of Darkness who bears light that by it’s very nature blinds and or further enslaves the souls of the dammed, the “feeble, sensual, or selfish souls.” To be feeble is to lack strength or to disport listless souls. In my opinion his use of the word sensual would also embrace lust, perversion and such, and selfish is fairly self explanatory. The three of these would encompass three of the four top of them; Lust, Greed and sloth. Also one must note: “Is it he who bears the Light, and with its splendors intolerable?” that Pike is posing a question in which he incorporates the use of an oxymoron with splendors and intolerable, but one must concede the fact that Pike indeed is calling this entity in its entirety, in deed, intolerable. Once again this is nothing more then a philosophical and truth seeking statement. Is it not Satan who seeks to imprison the souls of the weak? Doubt it not. In truth, much like quoting chapter and verse from the Bible, in order to understand fully, one must take it into consideration what precedes as well as what supervenes those particular quotes or verses, otherwise we choose to omit the whole picture or true meaning behind the words.

  58. There are about seven historical theological rationales to explain and to overcome the paradox that God is one and is graceful and loving in His nature, but there is nevertheless evil in the world. Did not God therefore make evil? The simplest and greatest of these is that God made man in His own image which required that He give his creature free will, and with the freedom of will men rebelled against God as did Satan or Lucifer.

The Gnostics had a different thought: the God of their understanding had a dual nature — both light and dark, both good and evil, both loving and vindictive — and it was the demiurge, or evil side of God, who created humans, and he made them ultimately naïve and ignorant like little powerless children so he could satisfy his dark nature by cruelties practiced upon them. God — the light and loving God — saw this and sent the snake to Eve and gave Eve and her progeny — humanity — a spark of His own nature — grace and love — and free will. The apple tree was the “tree of the knowledge of good and evil” so that through the exercise of free will humans could find their way to God and live in His grace and love.

Masons are supposed to sleek light and connection with the God of each of their understanding. What was being written was written in an area in which Christian theologians have unresolved differences after two millennia at least. More than differences, this area is occupied by the unknowable. St. Augustine would write about this and then say something like, “Once again, I have tried and failed.” As you point out, this handbook for Masons takes the traditional Christian point of view without writing a heavy theological analysis of the entire history of the treatment of this question. In my own religious conviction, one of the things of which I am most certain is that I am not going to find my way to God by climbing some new pseudo-intellectual Tower of Babel. St. Paul teaches me that even the smallest joke or silliness of God is utterly beyond my comprehension. So I will wait upon God with faith and expectation, and I will walk by faith, not by sight. I cannot find God but I have great gratitude that there is but one God and He can find me. My study of these paradoxes is interesting and even entertaining, but it would become an idolatry if I thought in my overweening pride I had it all figured out.

Never have I read so much babble! The Pike piece speaks for itself. Pike was commenting on the irony of the name Lucifer. Jesus must be flipping with the knowledge of how his message of peace and love just never got through to us humans.

  61. Pike by Birth says:

To follow up and conclude, I am a male Pike by birth, that’s my Given last name. And speaking as a family member I’ll say this:
Whether you call it Satanism, Lucifer, oisis, Al-llia, or whether he had his own personal demon he conjured up like Alister Crowley it makes little difference. His actions behind Lodge doors may have been secret, but his mutilation of Union soldiers after torturing them, then holding long rituals around their dead bodies is a Public action. That’s why he was stripped of rank, discharged, and kicked out of a Confederate Army in desperate need of manpower. Argue all you want about Lucifer vs Devil vs Venus etc. but Albert Pike was a very evil man.

    • Dennis Pike says:

I, also, am a Pike. By the looks of things, I may very possibly be a descendant of Albert Pike. I have done a bit of research, and there are several lines of Pikes that are unrelated, though. Even though the Internet says we were people who used picks and pick axes, that is actually the name “Pick” Pike came from ancient pikemen that fought with pikes. The original Coat of Arms even has a broken pike or spear that is being held, which I possess.

  62. Spirituous Sanctum says:

The whole point is that none of us is worthy of applying tags to good or evil, that is of God and God alone. Each man is to follow his or her own path and abide by their design Hebrews 10:11 All that we can hope for is that we follow our hearts as best we are able and to not go against what is in our hearts for gain or approval, rather we should have the courage to speak are hearts and minds and be willing to pay the piper, right or wrong. It is a matter of what is virtuous to us, not whether it is good or evil as both are of God. God created the Tree of Life and the Tree of Knowledge of good and evil, he created all the creatures of the the earth and man as well. All of which play an unprecedented role as per where we are today. Ignorance truly is bliss and who are you to point fingers and say what is good and what is evil?

  63. Not Knowing says:

“Lucifer, the Light-bearer! Strange and mysterious name to give to the Spirit of Darkness! Lucifer, the Son of the Morning! Is it he who bears the Light, and with its splendors intolerable, blinds feeble, sensual, or selfish souls? Doubt it not!”

It is not from Albert Pike, he quote it from a french writer named Eliphas Levi; Dogme et Rituel de la Haute Magie…

  64. gravitypress says:

I read a bit of Levi’s book. It is still a very limited interpretation of the word Lucifer. Reach back farther, beyond 2000 years and the arm of the Roman Church and you will see Lucifer has absolutely nothing to do with Satan other than it being a way to demonize those they sought to conquer.

For Years I have tried to figure out who my father, Dennis M Pike’s relatives were. His father was named Walter Pike, but we never knew him. Then, I found these photos of Albert Pike, who my late father bears a very close resemblance to. Not only that, he had a son named Walter Lacy Pike, and my g father’s name was Walter Pike. Walter may have been a name passed down. I am thinking, and I will research it more, that there is a very good possibilty that I am a direct descendant of Albert Pike. Considering who he was, that’s pretty crazy!

    • albertpike says:

Pike’s son Walter Lucy was killed at the Civil war at the age of 24. I don’t know off the top of my head if he had children. You can get a biography book of Pike written by Fred Alsopp; I think he provides details on this. I will also look it up and write again if I find any information. In the nearest weeks I will post a large new essay on Pike with biography, so stay tuned.

      • Dennis Pike says:

Thanks. I don’t know that Walter Lacy Pike had any sons. Albert only had one son that lived for any length of time. The name could have been passed down the family line. I would have to research it more. The Walter Pike that is my grandfather was probably born around 1921-1924. I don’t even know his middle name. The resemblance between Albert Pike, and my late father, Dennis Michael Pike is too close to ignore, though. That, along with the name Walter in the family line, seems more than a coincidence. I would have to research it more to be sure, though.

I am a freemason & I really enjoyed this article. It seems there is much hysteria around religion and what people say and interpret and it saddened me to see the level of judgemental dogma in some of the comments which seemed preoccupied with being convinced of their own reasoning instead of actually engaging in open and enquiring debate. In fact, I found some of the various commentaries that followed the article more disturbing than the allegations made against Pike’s writing. Having said that there are some really decent comments – like Thomas Connolly’s which is great, thanks for getting that in there!

Before people cling to their faiths and use it as a means to bolster and validate their own arguments, perhaps they should remember how impotent their faiths actually were in the prevention of (and instead implementation of) a vast range of crimes against humanity including the crusades, the spanish inquisition, the witch hunts of Europe and America and more recently in the twentieth century (an expansive subject in itself).

My point is this. Freemasonry is just a toolbox, it can be used for good or bad. Just because someone is or is not a Freemason does not ‘make’ them a good or bad person. Just as someone who says they are Christian does not automatically behave in a good or evil fashion, this is so dismally obvious and yet I feel compelled to say it. It is clear to me at least that all the monotheistic faiths (and perhaps, arguably any other faith) can be used towards a good or bad end.

In the case of Pike, anything he said or did has to be placed into its temporal context, the language, the social and political landscape etc and despite that I still don’t come away from his writing with the belief that he was some kind of satan-driven character. The fairly staggering allegations against the man are often presented in a sensationalist fashion with little if any supporting references. In the end, one of the most beautiful aspects of human existence is the fact that each person has to live their own life and hopefully make many of their own decisions based on their own moral compass.

  77. James West says:

I’m curious if you have ever explored the possibility that Pike’s “Light Giver” references were directly or indirectly inherited from Giordano Bruno, the Renaissance philosopher, scientist, magician, revolutionary, and per Dame Francis Yates’ theory and life’s work, the erstwhile founder and/or foundational inspiration and seminal occult influence of Rosicrucianism and speculative freemasonry? To that end, Bruno wrote a book/play translated as “The light Bearer”(alternatively translated as “The Torch Bearer” or “The Candle Bearer”). Meanwhile, throughout his work, Bruno enthusiastically championed a revival of the classical gods of yore (see, “The Expulsion of the Triumphant Gods”) within the bold and unprecedented conceptual framework of a one-world religion, wherein he likewise had a special place in his heart for Venus. One might go so far as to say Bruno fanatically extolled the Morning Star’s power of love and light sine qua non (most notably, see Bruno’s, “The Heroic Frenzies,” where these themes are central). Bruno’s influence perhaps reached Pike by way of Elipas Levi, the famous French magus whose work served as a primary source for Pike’s development of Masonic ritual.

  81. Benign says:

Lucifer meaning in Greek ”Εωσφορος” from the Greek translation you mentioned,is a metaphor with a meaning. It symbolizes the morning star that precedes the sun and figuratively implies that before his fall, when Satan was still good,he was very close in wisdom, power and beauty to God.And the reference to the Babylonian King is also symbolic if you pay attention to what the bible says about him.The king is Lucifer who blinded by selfishness revolted against God. (For example : ”“Your heart became proud on account of your beauty, and you corrupted your wisdom because of your splendor.” ”

  82. KT says:

Hello and good day, one simple question, did Albert Pike, write anywhere in all of his writings, that Jesus was his Lord and Savior…..NOT writings that said he was a Christian, He believed in God, etc…..Lastly, if no writings exist that Albert Pike plainly and clearly said Jesus is Lord and Savior, well that should explain it quite simply that he was not a Christian…..for he left behind allot of writings. Kev

  83. Beve Williams says:

Yes, you are right that the book is not outwardly Satanic. But if you had read it, it is not Christian either. If anything it mocks the Holy Bible by inferring that all religions are fine. Do not get me wrong, I am not arguing from a Christian point of view, but as a scholar. Understanding Christianity, one has to come to the belief that the only way to the Father is through Christ. What Pike says is, “that is fine…. for the Christian, but it does not hold for the Muslim, Jew, etc.” In our age, it is most un-PC to say otherwise, but, if one is a Christian, and has read his or her scriptures, one knows that what Pike wrote undermines the faith. I do not know how God will judge mankind, I have enough problems keeping myself on track; however, if you accept what everyone says because it makes others feel good, then you are delusional. It is much like not telling a friend that he stinks from not bathing because you do not want to offend him. In the meantime, he is driving others away from him, possibly putting his job or his family at risk. So, if a person believes they have the answer, let them speak, present their case. We are still free to reject or accept it (at least for the present), but make no mistake, Morals and Dogma does more harm than good to Christianity.

  84. Dave says:

I appreciated your article. We are told by the Apostle Paul that “Satan masquerades as an angel of light”, so we can say he is more a “type” of Lucifer (shines like the “morning star”), just like the fallen king (or simply the nation) of Babylon, written of in Isaiah 14. In New Age teachings, Lucifer is represented as the spiritual “energies of love”, wisdom, and intellect. The embodiment of the false “angel of light” as a “hero” in these doctrines of demons is also constructed into the Greek legend of the god Prometheus, who stole fire from the Olympian gods, and gave it to mankind (whom HE molded out of the earth) for the advancement of civilization and knowledge. This is what Satan did in the garden by offering the forbidden fruit of so that our eyes would be “opened” and we would “become as God”.

    • Dave says:

I also want to add that freemasonry is of demonic origin. In Pike’s dogmas, even though he may have shunned Lucifer in that passage written of, there are a multitude of heresies that he teaches throughout the book in regard to the True God being one and the same with a pantheon of gods worshiped throughout the ages. Even when the initiates reach their levels of “enlightenment” (possession by demonic spiritual powers and forces), their “brotherhood” is shared in “sacred fellowship” even when false religions are intermingled, they take binding oaths of secrecy even unto the promise of death and torture for the sake of their “hidden knowledge”, drinking “symbolic” blood from “symbolic” human skulls?! This IS walking in darkness….to ABIDE in Jesus is to FEEL the utter disgust of such wicked and demonic deceptions. Be filled with the Spirit, and don’t fulfill the desires of the flesh. That’s what the root appeal is to joining a secret society….the desire to have “secret knowledge” and special power and privileges. Just desire to do God’s will, and He will unfold HIS mysteries and secret knowledge to you, even exposing the “hidden” forces of darkness.

Freemasons certainly do not worship the devil. It is neutral in religion so people of different faiths can belong. They believe in a grand architect a creator of the universe. I am sorry you are very misinformed research both sides of a topic to form an opinion instead of giving in to crazy conspiracy theorists.

  85. Kate says:

An internet search for Albert Pike predictions brings up his “predictions” about three world wars. I don’t see these as much as predictions as goals of the Illuminati/Freemasons. In his verbiage about world war 3 (which everyone should read because it contains a wealth of information) he says the following:

“… citizens . . .will receive the true light through the universal manifestation of the pure doctrine of Lucifer, brought finally out in the public view”

There is no doubt in my mind that his God is Satan.

  86. Daniel Baker says:

Interesting comments posted here and I must say that many things posted by inauthentic and disengenious research is often misrepresented to fit a married to position. That being said and I understand that here you are dedicated to Pike but you made a more general statement I was wondering that you could bear LIGHT on;)

“and also by the fact that in other Masonic texts I browsed I could not find any references to Lucifer at all.”

I must admit that my question to this will come from a position of ignorance, or having seen quotes from books, but also from basic symbolism and Egyptian obsession and other general critical readings of other sects like the Bavarian Illuminati (highly reported by scholars to have infiltrated many Lodges of Masonry see Terry Melanson’s website or book Perfectibilist’s). That being said my initial question would regard a Mason, and a noted historian Manly P. Hall. Now I haven’t read Hall’s tomes but they are widely purported to have related Lucifer as a source for the initiate to become enlightened.

Also many scholars have proclaimed Osirus as a “Rising and Dying god” in the vain of Nimrod, who like in Isiah was a King who aspired to divinity. That is what the story in Isiah relates, man seeking God-hood and being paralled to the “Morning star,” alluding perhaps to Satan’s rebellion but as we know Jesus lays claim to being the real morning star. This would make sense as Satan is seen as a “counterfitter” of the Living God. I’m no initiate so I can’t say for sure but it seems to me like Maonry worships the “Rising and Dying God” and alludes that Jesus is nothing more either physically or allegorically, especially given their Eyptian religious motif.

    • albertpike says:

You said: Masonry worships the “Rising and Dying God”
No, this is not the case. Masonry worships God as an Architect, Creator and the Artificer of the Universe; the specific vision of God is left to the individual conscience.

      • craxd says:

Actually, no Masonry doesn’t worship anyone. Freemasonry is not a religion, and never has acted like, nor claimed to be one. A candidate is required to believe in the one God, who has many names, the creator of the universe, however, there is no worship done in a lodge, as that is for each member to do, on the sabbath, at his own church.

  88. John Dillon says:

I have read ALL the above comments. The only comment, on the subject of Luzifer/Satan, which holds THE truth has been made by Shawn Grandstaff “Satan could be what our ego has created so we have an enemy.” Wake up people Satan is our Ego. Is it not so obvious.?? We have been lied to and deceived by the Church for the past 2000 years, Jesus himself was against the Church/Temple. You Don´t NEED a Church to be with God. Jesus, our Lord, gave us precise instructions on what to do and how to live our lives. None of these instructions include the Church.
The Church as we know it today has been created by man not by Jesus our Saviour. Those who follow the Church blindly are following false Apostels as the Scriptures foretold:

    2 Corinthians 11:13
13 For such are false apostles, deceitful workers, transforming themselves into the apostles of Christ.

  89. Marty says:

It certainly doesn’t look like that Lucifer is an evil being or another name or aspect of Satan, as many zealous Christians claim and propagate.
Relying on the bible, it looks even quite obvious that Lucifer is the same entity as JESUS, when you e.g. read Revelation 22:16 and 2 Peter 1:19, in which Jesus refers to himself as being the Morning Star.

However, this doesn’t mean or prove that there isn’t a distinct SATANIC element within Freemasonry.
I would think the majority of freemasons don’t realise this satanic element, but I’m quite sure there really is a dark satanic and manipulative side within Freemasonry. Of course, freemasons themselves will never proclaim this, and they are also permitted to lie to protect their craft and fellow craftsmen, so their claims cannot be believed on face value.

I have been studying Gnosticism for a while and found some interesting material on “Lucifer” and its possible true status in creation, for example here:

oh boy, i think we forget one thing…jesus christ, like horus, and all the other sun gods are just that…sun gods, personified for allegorical purpose….there may have been a jeshua, and if that were so his story is a copy of all the same stories of astral-theology….jesus, lucifer, satan, mithras, osiris/horus….all powerful allegories..with certain purpose…claiming christ is the only salvation is a joke..im sorry..we are our only salvation. not in the atheistic sense, for i am very spiritual and a mason with quite a bit of knowledge…and let me tell you…it does not matter what degree you are…there are no super secrets hidden in masonry which reveal anything of any controversial nature that cannot be learned on the internet or in unified field theory of quantum physics…and lets be honest…all the non masons can scream bloody murder til they are blue in the face..and you can read all the books by masons, by non masons and still you will have absolutely no say or perspective because you are not a member. you are not there to experience what we experience. and that experience changes through out the world in all the different masonic jurisdictions. believe what you want, whatever helps you sleep at night. in the end, god or the great powerful force which binds and makes the whole is far beyond our true understanding, beyond any name or word we can bestow. argue back and forth all you like…names and stories are just that…what you have in your heart and in your positivity and love for humanity and the goodness that emanates from your actions and integrity are what is important. As above so below, as within so without. quoting scriptures translated from many languages and changed in various versions of all holy books are hardly a concrete absolute. besides…albert pike is one man, hardly the only spokesperson for a fraternity that has far outlived him. as much as i have read and own most of his books and many other prolific masonic writers, no one can dictate or reveal any truth beyond your own experience or understanding. masonry is whatever it means to you. plain and simple. hiding deeper meanings is more of a game of for those who have the mind and eyes to seek deeper. the mason who cares not for anything deeper than the superficial explanations in our ritual, will not be influenced by some unseen idea or concept. even if by some retarded chance masons worshiped anything other the all encompassing great architect of the universe, that is their personal right. .’.

Am curious, as to what you base you assertion(s) on? I have no issue with genial debates. I would ask whether there is any evidence you can present to invalidate Y’shua as “Ha Moshiach?”

Virtually all western, gentile (goyim) churchianity is grounded in worship of some bastard mingling of Greek “Jesus” with sol invectus or mithra, or tamuz, or… This is a sad truth, one to which many so-called Christians are ignorant. But if you like, I would love to introduce you to THE prophet of whom Moshe spoke (Devarim or Deuteronomy, 18:15 – 22,) who came first to be struck and later will be declared (Numbers 20:7 – 13) as HaMoshiach.

I will not upbraid you for what seems to me to be presumption; I simply ask if: a) you know Yehoshua, or Y’shua, rather than Jesus, and if so; b) do you have any facts to invalidate either his historical personage, or his credibility as The Prophet and (coming back as) The Hebrew Messiah?

Lastly, yours seems to be an interesting faith. By what standard of rightness or righteousness do you posit that “… what we have in our hearts… are what is important?” That is a popular sentiment, of course, but I ask many people, “who determines what is important/right/sufficient/good?” You would be the first to offer a viable, definable answer. Nebulous replies, based on unsubstantiated religious beliefs or vague, humanist dogma, have never held up against the Torah of YHVH.

    What is the Rosicrucian order?

    • craxd says:

It was started by mystics, and they continually study comparative religions and gnosis. They, AMORC, are not part of Freemasonry, which is what there is left of the organization today.

      From Wikipedia:

“Rosicrucianism was associated with Protestantism (Lutheranism in particular), and the manifestos opposed Roman Catholicism and its preference for dogma over empiricism. They traced their philosophy and science to the Moors, asserting that it had been kept secret for 120 years until the intellectual climate might receive it.”

Freemasonry has something slightly similar, which is the study of Judaism and Christianity, and is known as the Rose Croix. It is appendant to Freemasonry, if one wishes to go into it.

  92. Mike Rarey says:

The term Lucifer was not in the original Hebrew Bible. The identifier there was actually “helel ben shachar”, which translates to “shining one”, or “son of the dawn”. Between the Greek translation to the LLX version of the Bible, to the King James Version, the story changed from the prophecy of the fall of the King of Babylon to the now incorrect version of the fall of Satan. Lucifer never was a name for Satan. This is why Sir Albert Pike was showing confusion regarding Lucifer and why later Christians began thinking Sir Albert Pike, and all Masons, are Devil Worshipers. And just for clarification, Sir Albert Pike’s book on Morals and Dogma was used by the Scottish Rite of Freemasonry. Only about 20% of all Freemasons opt to go through the Scottish Rite Degrees. There are also the York Rite Degrees, culminating in the Knights Templar, which is the only Masonic Body in which one must be Christian and swear allegiance to defend Christianity, if need be.

To you, Sovereign Grand Inspectors General, we say this, that you may repeat it to the Brethren of the 32nd, 31st, and 30th degrees—The Masonic Religion should be, by all of us initates of the high degrees, maintained in the purity of the Luciferian Doctrine. If Lucifer were not God, would Adonay whose deeds prove his cruelty, perdify and hatred of man, barbarism and repulsion for science, would Adonay and his priests, calumniate him? Yes, Lucifer is God, and unfortunately Adonay is also god. There are so many people on the internet working for their own agenda spreading falsehoods, lies and mistruths on subjects of which they know nothing. If you believe these idiots then the Queen is a human eating lizard from another planet and so are all the world leaders. 96. nechesh=meshiach (hebrew serpent=messiah) 358 says:

albert pike was a HIGH LEVEL OCCULTIST. he designed the 32 degree system and created/invented the rituals and initiations for each degree. trying to fit him into a conventinal chrisian box to sooth your own fear and ignorance of higher spirituals principles doesnt change the fact that ALBERT PIKE WAS AN OCCULTIST. pike himself said that only about 5% of freemasonry (members) would ever even discover the deeper aspects of freemasonry beyond the exoteric aspects. now what happens next is: because so few people understand the occult, they have been indocrinated to by their ruling religiousorders and traditions —WHO ARE ALL POLITICAL—andhave used spiritual knowledge for worldly/secular aims—it doesnt matter whether you claim any specific religion- they all do the exact same thing: the initiates gain higher level spiritual knwledge and the priestly classes degenerate the rituals to fit their agendas. these degenrated rituals become the conventionalized morals and the dogma of the corupted institutiuons. those ecclesiastical factions bowdlerize the previously worshipped deity (which is a divine energetic frequency and accompanying consciousness), take its virtues and name them flaws, intentionally defaming that god, and in their new regime defining it (which was the god of the old ecclisaticl faction) as the representation of official dogmatic evil. then, instead of teaching the principles of spiritual sciences to their initiates, the priests just learn about the dogma and the degeneartd rituals, and the entire institution is molded around reinforcing these flawed, increasingly degenearted aspects of the religion. now if the priests no longer even know what the “mysteries” are, how does their flock even have a chance in hell of a snowball to learn the truth by following leaders who don’t even know. at the end of this is the question as to whether pike was a satanist and lucipher and all that jazz. the best way i could tell you how to figure it out without outright telling you, which you wouldnt really understand, if plainly spoken, is that the christain understanding of christ, exoterically, represents the same thing as it is esoterically, but the exoteric flaw is in its literal misundestanding. what it represents in its imagery and in its place in the rituals is understood (by the subconscious mind) but unless that subconscious understanding is aligned into conscious awareness, then it controls the conscious mind via the subconscious mind and tht misundertsnding of “christ” on a conscious level-believing n the exoteric/literal aspect and not being aware of the esoteric aspect. of course the rituals are speaking to your soul, but all the religious corrupton creates massive paradigmaticschisms which when glimpsed via the truelight of christ, become so twisted and exponentially skewed, instead of experiencing GOD, one is posessed by the devil. thats what the the whole evileye is. its the 3rd eye opened, but so imbalance that insteadof experiencing higher spiritual vibrations with a balanced vision, one glimpses the inferanl nature of spiritual reality, the lower astral depths, the hell of man’s fears and superstition he creates via his own mind, and that vison is further degerated by his own imbalances. PIKe was not a satanist, but an occultist, no doubt and of high skill, for a white person , at least. he certainly conjured and communed with angels and demons- which ar energetc consciousnesses of the same nature but different degrees, and UNDOUBTEDLY he engaged in his own magical rituals and pursuits of an occult nature. the fact that people have no clue about the high sciences, and that their religious traditions have branded any spiritual sciences not authorized by their authority and control as EVIL/SatANIC?PAGAN, etc etc etc, therefore you debate about whether this freemason was a satanist and whether freemasonry is satanic and how to justfty these ideas with your in the box- exoteric literalist christian dogmas asnd morals.

    • Kate says:

Pike is both an occultist and Satanist because they are one and the same. An occultist may not completely understand that they are a Satanist but we know them by their fruit – talking with demons etc. Being a follower of Satan offers only curses but being a follower of Jesus offers great blessings (Psalm 119:1), and protection (Proverbs 10:29).

Your name says it all – you believe that Satan is Christ. You are so wrong on this and so many things, but you are following the father of lies so I can understand why. The sad thing is that your god Satan is leading you to your destruction (2 Thes 1: 8 & 9) but my GOD “has made us to be a kingdom, priests to His God and Father” (Rev 1:6) and offers us eternal life in the New Jerusalem (Rev 21: 1 to 4).

Followers of our Lord Jesus Christ (the true anointed one not Satan) do not try to fit Albert Pike into a conventional box to “sooth our own fear and ignorance of higher spirituals principles”. We are protecting ourselves from evil by testing all spirits (1 John 4:1, 1 Thes 5:21, Eph 5: 6&7) and ourselves (2 Cor 13:5, Gal 6:4) that we have received the spirit of GOD and not some other spirit so we can pass GOD’s testing (James 1:12, Rev 3:10) and be found worthy. I believe you are accurate when you state that 5% of Freemasonry members don’t understand the deeper aspects and this should cause them great concern because they are associating with something they don’t understand. By being born again through the blood sacrifice of Jesus Christ, his followers can understand the whole truth as found in the inspired WORD of GOD. So you see – your god Satan withholds the truth from his followers but my GOD reveals the truth to me through his WORD and the Holy Spirit.

You are correct about organized religion today. It is part of Satan’s great deception called “mystery Babylon” in the book of Revelation. When you ask “how does their flock even have a chance in hell of a snowball to learn the truth by following leaders who don’t even know?” we can see that it is Satan that is denying all these lost souls the truth not GOD. Churches present themselves as the intermediary between mankind and GOD but only Jesus fulfills this role (John 14:6). All organized religion has many false teachings blended in with a bit of truth and are deceiving the masses. Members of these corporate “churches” have been misled into believing that their salvation depends on their membership so they don’t “test all things” as instructed in scripture leaving themselves open to false teachings, but scripture shows that only the righteous will be saved (Matthew 13: 41 to 43). It is the WORD of GOD that sanctifies us (John 17:17) and through it we are “born again not of seed which is perishable but imperishable” 1 Peter 1:23. GOD leads us in the path of righteousness (Psalm 23:3) through the WORD.

  97. Aron says:

Lucifer in the Hebrew translated to “Bright morning star”… This was because he was seen as one of the most beautiful and most powerful angels that God created before his fall from his presence with the Lord. His name later changed to Satan, which meant “adversary”. In context, meaning enemy of God. Lucifer fell out of relationship with God due to his active rebellion and jealously to be like God. The same fall from relationship is seen in the Biblical narrative as well starting with Adam and Eve.There desire was to be God in their own hearts, while knowing fully this would be against God and His ways. Any rebellion against God and his ways is called Sin, which separates man from God, due to the eternal offense. Keep in mind it is not the offense itself which deems an eternal judgement, but rather think of whom the offense is towards, An eternal God.

Pike must have been puzzled due his lack of resources to read original languages, the poorly translated latin, or his inability to know the correct Biblical hermeneutic.

  98. Charles says:

The term Lucifer does not appear in the NIV. Jerome, when translating (Lu Sephera = Venus) gave us this term, and it should in no way be used in place of Satan (the advesary). Unfortunately this was propagated by the KJV.

Also interesting to point out that many of the Christian Rebukers in the repliers give very unbiblical advice. Their ignorance does not help the discussion. One post was extremely ignorant but had good intentions. Let us remain silent unless we speak the very words of God. Many people think they quote and have the mind of God but they never stop and question every phrase and test scripture to see if God actually says the same words they are saying.

I have long studied Masonry, conspiracies etc. I have read Morals and Dogma over the years. I have only found a companion in Pike as a student of God’s Word. My favorite is: as we struggle with understanding Soveriegnty “Many of you will say, ‘If God is Soverign, why then should we pray?’ and I say to you, ‘Why should we love’?” this rectified many arguments for me. I’m sure long enough of looking at “who are you O man to talk back to God?” and I would probably come to the same conclusion. But Pike helped my slowness. As Iron sharpens Iron, so too the company of men who love God will quicken the spirit within us.

  101. Elton Skeleton says:

You say Pike knew his Latin, well I’m pretty sure he knew his Greek too: “apothesis” does NOT mean “apotheosis”. From what I googled its etymology means “putting aside”. So when you say that Pike commands his candidates for 19th degree to aspire to God alone, he’s actually doing quite the opposite.

    • craxd says:

It is actually a mis-spelled word for apotheosis, above. Below is a correct quote from sacred-texts.com

“The Apocalypse is, to those who receive the nineteenth Degree, the Apotheosis of that Sublime Faith which aspires to God alone, and despises all the pomps and works of Lucifer. LUCIFER, the Light-bearer! Strange and mysterious name to give to the Spirit of Darkness! Lucifer, the Son of the Morning! Is it he who bears the Light, and with its splendors intolerable blinds feeble, sensual, or selfish Souls? Doubt it not! for traditions are full of Divine Revelations and Inspirations: and Inspiration is not of one Age nor of one Creed. Plato and Philo, also, were inspired.”

  102. Eugene Denbrook says:

Am curious, as to the assumption that the Catholic church is the authority on this matter. I personally find the scriptures are best understood in context- and the context is Hebrew, in every aspect.

Every translation begins to fail, the moment translators forget that “…unto them (Yisrael) were committed the oracles of YHVH” (Rom. 3:2). I do understand the inference of the fallen king of Babylon- stretch this further, if you like, and you have a shadow picture perhaps begun by Nimrod. However, according to Rashi, among others, it would seem Is. 14:12 refers to the star or prince of heavenly host (Venus), as worshipped by the Babylonians. A fallen star or prince, from heaven, could represent ha-Satan.

Although in a literal sense, this prophesy from Yeshayahu (Isaiah) does concern the king of Babylon, who is the father of rebellion against God (Gen. 3); and who is the god of this world (ex. Matt. 4)? Nimrod, Nebuchadnezzar, Antiochus Epiphenes, et all… are these not all prophetic shadow pictures of the kosmikrateros (sp?) of Psalms 2? And according to the prophet Daniel, was not even Nebuchadnezzar proven a mere vessel of God’s wrath (see Dan. 4:30-37)?

No, the only adversary, who has ever had literal access to heaven (and therefore able to fall or be cast down from) is the one whom KJV translators call lucifer. Mis-translation? Quite possibly. Or perhaps accidentally correct. Regardless, trusting the Scriptures in it’s actual language- or translated by those to whom they were committed- is surely a sound stone, upon which to build this foundation.

    • craxd says:

St. Jerome was who translated the Jewish Tanakh, into the Old Testament, for the Catholic Church, using vulgar Latin. That is why their Bible is called the Latin Vulgate. St. Jerome got the translation close, but wrong. It was carried over into the KJV Bible, because Britain’s translators didn’t know what the Hebrew word was, either, so they copied from the Latin Vulgate. However, the Anglicans are who started calling Satan lucifer, even though Calvin and Luther, along with both Catholics and Jews, tried to tell them better.

Many Biblical scholars, who actually hold degrees, from well known brick and mortar universities, say that Isaiah 14:12 only means the fall of the King of Babylon, nothing more, and so do the Jews, who wrote it. There’s a good article at Bible.org about it, along with the Christian Courier.

  104. Josh says:

I didn’t read all of the responses but, I think a lot of what is being left out here is, the name “Lucifer-Bright Morning Star”, is this is Lucifer’s name, yes. This is however before “it” was cast out of heaven. Before he became Satan. There’s nothing else to understand past that. Mr. Pike was simply stating while and before Satan was Lucifer and he was the Bright Morning Star…

    • craxd says:

The word, lucifer, was used only once, within the Bible, to describe the King of Babylons fall, not Satan’s. It was a mis-translation of morning star, which any Rabbi will gladly agree with. They wrote the verse it was in, after all.

  105. Al B says:

Hi what a very interesting thread lots of differing opinions .
I checked Morals and Catma and found eight references to Louie -cipher
no 1 To steal the livery of the Court of God to serve the Devil withal; to pretend to believe in a God of mercy and a Redeemer of love, and persecute those of a different faith; to devour widows houses, and for a pretence make long prayers; to preach continence, and wallow in lust; to inculcate humility, and in pride surpass Lucifer; to pay tithe, and omit the weightier matters of the law, judgment, mercy and faith.

no 2 The true name of Satan, the Kabalists say, is that of Yahveh reversed; for Satan is not a black god, but the negation of God. The Devil is the personification of Atheism or Idolatry.
For the Initiates, this is not a Person, but a Force, created for good, but which may serve for evil. It is the instrument of Liberty or Free Will. They represent this Force, which presides over the physical generation, under the mythologic and horned form of the God PAN; thence came the he-goat of the Sabbat, brother of the Ancient Serpent, and the Light-bearer or Phosphor, of which the poets have made the false Lucifer of the legend.

Gold, to the eyes of the Initiates, is Light condensed. They style the sacred numbers of the Kabalah “golden numbers,” and the moral teachings of Pythagoras his “golden verses.” For the same reason, a mysterious book of Apuleius, in which an ass figures largely, was called “The Golden Ass.”
So Alby knew quiet well to whom he was referring

No 3 The Apocalypse is, to those who receive the nineteenth Degree, the Apotheosis of that Sublime Faith which aspires to God alone, and despises all the pomps and works of Lucifer. Plato and Philo, also, were inspired.

The Apocalypse, indeed, is a book as obscure as the Sohar./zohar
It is written hieroglyphically with numbers and images; and the Apostle often appeals to the intelligence of the Initiated. “Let him who hath knowledge, understand! let him who understands, calculate!” he often says, after an allegory or the mention of a number. Saint John, the favorite Apostle, and the Depositary of all the Secrets of the Saviour, therefore did not write to be understood by the multitude.

The Sephar Yezirah, the Sohar, and the Apocalypse are the completest embodiments of Occultism. They contain more meanings than words; their expressions are figurative as poetry and exact as numbers. The Apocalypse sums up, completes, and surpasses all the Science of Abraham and of Solomon. The visions of Ezekiel, by the river Chebar, and of the new Symbolic Temple, are equally mysterious expressions, veiled by figures of the enigmatic dogmas of the Kabalah, and their symbols are as little understood by the Commentators, as those of Free Masonry.
Old Albert is a student of the Kabalah and Zohar.
No4 It is WISDOM that, in the Kabalistic Books of the Proverbs and Ecclesiasticus, is the Creative Agent of God. Elsewhere in the Hebrew writings it is [Hebrew: דבר יהוה], Debar Iahavah, the Word of God. It is by His uttered Word that God reveals Himself to us; not alone in the visible and invisible but intellectual creation, but also in our convictions, consciousness, and instincts. Hence it is that certain beliefs are universal. The conviction of all men that God is good led to a belief in a Devil, the fallen Lucifer or Light-bearer, Shaitan the Adversary, Ahriman and Tuphōn, as an attempt to explain the existence of Evil, and make it consistent with the Infinite Power, Wisdom, and Benevolence of God.
Rather self explanatory ,i assume Tuphon =Tyhon.

Lucifer is just another name for Satan, who as head of the evil world-system is the real, though invisible, power behind the successive rulers of Tyre, Babylon, Persia, Greece, Rome, and all of those evil rulers that we have seen come and go in the history of the world. This passage goes beyond human history and marks the beginning of sin in the universe and the very fall of Satan in the pristine, sinless spheres before the creation of man

‘The Lost Keys Of Freemasonry’ by Manly Palmer Hall 33° “When The Mason learns that the Key to the warrior on the block is the proper application of the dynamo of living power, he has learned the Mystery of his Craft. The seething energies of Lucifer are in his hands and before he may step onward and upward, he must prove his ability to properly apply this energy.” page 48.

  114. Elvis says:

” “Lucifer, the Light-bearer! Strange and mysterious name to give to the Spirit of Darkness! Lucifer, the Son of the Morning! Is it he who bears the Light, and with its splendors intolerable, blinds feeble, sensual, or selfish souls? Doubt it not!”
[Albert Pike, Morals and Dogma of the Ancient and Accepted Scottish Rite of Freemasonry]
Masons from the first initiation which is the first degree are urged to mightily “seek the Light!” The average Mason is continually saying that he is “seeking the Light,” and will spend his entire life “moving toward the Light.”

People who haven’t studied this subject would assume that this “Light” is the revelation of the God of the Bible. This statement is continuously held up to try to convince us that Masonry is Christian. In the above quote, Albert Pike is saying that Lucifer is the One who bears the Light of Freemasonry.

The sentence immediately preceding confirms not only that Lucifer is the Light-bearer, but that Masons of previous degrees have been led to believe that the opposite was true.

The wording of this sentence is difficult to understand unless you have special knowledge. Doc Marquis was asked for his explanation, lets look at what he had to say:
“The Apocalypse is, to those who receive the nineteenth Degree, the Apotheosis of that Sublime Faith which aspires to God Alone, and despises all the pomps and works of Lucifer.”
    [Ibid.]
It seems to contradict the sentence first quoted above, It appears to contradict the quote above where Pike identifies Lucifer as the Masonic Light-bearer. However when you understand the esoteric explanation from Doc Marquis, your understanding clears up completely.

The Apocalypse is identified first by Pike as being the Book of Revelation written by the Apostle John. Pike then states that similar books from other religions are just as ’inspired’ as Revelation, mentioning Plato, Philo, the Sephar Yezirah, and the Sohar. Pike says all three of these books — Apocalypse [Revelation], the Sephar Yezirah, and the Sohar, are all identically “inspired.” And since the last two books are of non-Christian faiths, Albert Pike is saying that the contents of Revelation are no big deal.

Pike then says that these three books “are the completest embodiment of Occultism.” [Ibid.] Now, we understand that Pike views the God of the Apocalypse as being the opposite but equal to Satan just as typical Occultists believe and teach!

Secondly, Doc Marquis provides the esoteric, occultic, explanation. Pike is also saying in this sentence that, in the previous 18 degrees, Masons believed that God was the Light-bearer, but now, in this 19th Degree, Pike is giving them new revelation. This insight completely squares with stated Masonic policy of deliberately misleading Masons in the lower degrees until they were really ready for the “truth.”

This is the truth – Masonry worships Lucifer.””

I thought he means exactly what he says without chasing hidden meanings around bushes or involving jesus at all?
The second world War threw down the facist and commie weaker doctrines and the next great war will throw down both mohammet and the pope. This makes way for the great luciferian doctrine to come fully “into the light” or before man who will choose.
Masons and Priests know exactly what they mean and chasing their ghosts around “what might have meant what” can lead to reaching. The need to create an acceptable answer because the simple one is not.
John’s revelation was clear in that all that is all the churches now will fall to make way for christ, but between that fall and the return, the whole world will rise in the luciferian doctrine, fully believing it to be divine or simply not caring. But by the time this happens, whatever might be left of islam or christendom will be hiding under rocks. According to the legend one will return while the other is finally, greatfully eradicated forever.
However I think it is good to wonder at and seek to understand these things. It’s a study where old masters and first week students alike can reveal intriguing things.

  116. FT says:

Everything in the old Mason books are written in code and symbolism. Light to a Mason, means truth. They believe in order do be a supreme being you must have a perfect balance of negative and positive, which is partly the thought of the phrase “as above, so below”. Masons don’t believe in a “being”. Not God in the traditional sense and not Lucifer. “God” to high ranking Masons is the universe acting as the creator. Collective consciousness. Lucifer, bringer of light is not literal. Lucifer, bringer of light is Lucifer, bringer of truth. Lucifer not being an evil deity but Lucifer being the negative balancing out the positive or even bringing the positive to light. Without light, there is no darkness. Without the lies and deceit, or “negative” of Lucifer, how would you ever know “light”, or truth?

  117. iannis boun says:

Lucifer , comes from the greek word ”εωσφόρος”. The morning star that ancient greeks favoured because it signaled the new day and the new sun-shine to come.”Εωσφόρος” you can call it Eosf’οros. It means the one one who brings the dawn -in Greek .It became Lucifer in latin. But there is a hidden story behind this .Eosforos in our mythology (greek) has NOTHING to do with satan. It became connected because the first centuries christian monks connected the Greek Ancient Religion (pagans) with Satan , so to turn against them christianity .The used the name ,the star Eosforos so to blame pagans in general with satans work.Eosforos was the name of a very handsome youth man that the gods did not wanted him to be forgoten…..

  118. Help... says:

I think its interesting that if Venus is in fact Lucifer he would represent the 8 pointed star of the magi -related to the story of Jesus’ birth. Could the star represent Jesus? If that’s the case then is Jesus Lucifer? Yet the star of David, used by Jews, Masons and Zionists (some intertwined) alike, is 6 pointed which is a reference to the sun as far as I’ve researched. Correct me if I’m wrong..

  119. Very nice. Nice studying and presenting.

  120. Nicholas says:

“Lucifer” and “Satan” only became synonymous during the Middle Ages. Prior to that, “Lucifer” (or “Phosphorus”) was a minor Greek and Roman deity, symbolized by the evening star. In the early Christian church, “lucifer” meant “light bearer” and nothing more. The fact that there was at least one Christian bishop named “Lucifer” attests to this fact. Even Jesus was sometimes called the “light bearer”. The passage in the Bible that many think refers to Lucifer/Satan, “How art thou fallen oh Lucifer, son of morning” refers to King Nebuchadnezzar, NOT “Lucifer”, the name not even APPEARING in this Bible verse until it was inserted therein in the King James version of 1611!

I am not a Mason and am not suggesting that Masons then, worship Lucifer, as being distinct from Satan, but do know that there are forms of gnosticism in which Lucifer IS honored – as being a messenger from the God Most High, a brother of Christ if you will, doing battle with other rebel angels against the false god, Demiurge who enslaves us. Those rebel angels in these gnostic traditions gave to mankind art, science, medicine, and other things that helped raise us up. In this sense then, Lucifer is a friend to mankind.

As an aside, even “Satan” has been morphed by Christianity over the centuries into being something that he originally was not too. In the Old Testament, Satan was an adversary, but he was an adversary SENT by Yahweh to tempt and smite humans. He was NOT the embodiment of absolute evil, pitted against absolute good. Concepts of absolute good versus evil, various levels of “hell”, etc. were borrowed by Christians from other faiths like Zoroastrianism. Jesus never spoke of it, nor did Judaism. Christians took “Satan”, conflated him with all Pagan deities that they hated or turned the latter into “demons” (which, as “daimons” in Pagan religions, were quite different) and then tacked on “Lucifer” for good measure.

    • Iannis Boun says:

i agree with the above but the name in ancient Greek was EOSPHOROS (ΕΩΣΦΟΡΟΣ) .Αυτος που φερνει το ΦΩΣ. The light barer , the one who caries the light .The first star to rise.According to our mythology he was a beautiful young man that was transformed to a start. When the Christians prevaled they used anything pagan as devil works.Unfortunately europe was violently christianized and thats a truth you need to dig deep to find. Not saying i respect Masons/Freemasons or any other secret group.

      • Bill Gosh says:

Forced conversion in Christianity in Europe by violence is rather common knowledge. You don’t have to dig deep, they admit it. The genocide of Muslim Spain which had an 800 year history of multi religous tolerance due to the Muslim belief according to 2:256 in the Qur’an “There is no compulsion of any sort in matters of religion.”

Other sections make protection of religous freedoms and equal treatment of other religions which there were a lot of including pagan.

It’s funny that everything Western history teaches us about other cultures is a lie. It is literally illegal to force someone to convert to Islam according to the Qur’an because (ibid) “The right way stands clearly distinguished from the way of error.”

But how many people know this?

Or that for 1400 years Muslims protected the Jews from Christian persecution and that the Iberian (Eber/Iber, Hebrew) was a Jewish populated land which explains the Muslim presence there, they were there protection from Christian European fanatics.

Forced conversion is the origin of the success of Christianity as a world religion.

By making it the “state religion” it became the only religion under penalty of death.

    • C. H. says:

You are correct about the Zoroastrian influence on the dual nature of western religion, but it is interesting to note that before the mass organization (and hence political utilization) of christianity the majority of christians belonged to an early ‘Gnostic’ sect or another, believing that no power could mediate between one’s self and the divine, and that the Pleroma (unitive knowledge – gnosis – of the godhead) was the ultimate goal. Therefore there could be no thought of eternal reward or damnation as these are self seeking interests (sin: literally to be separated from god), since this all being created all, knew all, spoke to you personally, was omnipresent, and yet immanent then you did not need a priest or a church to mediate. At this point in history Jesus really looked a lot more like Krishna and Mithras, or Horus or Apollo, Dionysus, etc. etc. This was a very prolific period where much of the early Aramaic and Greek scriptures were either intentionally excluded because they didnt fit the story (Gospel of St. Thomas, Gospel of Mary, Thunder in the Cosmic Mind, etc. really beautiful work) or were too poetic or veiled in mystical language to be wrapped up in a pretty package. Even to the Jews (and still) there was no concept of hell, save for a place to purify the soul (Even the atheistic sects of Buddhism have this metaphor: Way of the Boddhisattva -shantideva: Man shall remain in hell equal to the moments of his malice; in other words, hatred IS hell). It is likely as well that Jesus the Nazarene (nazarene – serpentine) could have referred to any number of “messianic” prophets of his time (take Simon Magus for example) who were critical enough to challenge the authority of Church, State, and capital (the prototypical Anarchist). It is more likely that we cannot pin a name or burial sight for the guy is probably because it was more than one individual who wasn’t too happy with the empire. In a time of political strife and religious persecution anyone daring enough to stand up could be considered a Messiah.
Jehovah/Yahweh bastardizations of the Hebrew tetragrammaton (inneffible name of god – see the tetractys of pythagoras and compare with Pascal’s triangle. -> Yod Heh Vauv Heh
Shaitan literally means “adversary” and within the connotation of a contemporary bible is as meaningless as saying “foe”. Frequently in the KJV or anything newer the word Satan is simply substituted for any arm of God that was “bad” according to the Council of Nicene (for quite obvious psychological reasons). The smiting was done by Azazel if I do recall, just as the casting out of man enforced by “MikaEL”, who is interestingly enough seen plastered on 7 day vigil candles defeating the “serpent” as the protector of mankind. Whats pretty hilarious is that if you read about “mammot” “moloch” “bael” “beelzebub” all you’re hearing are the adaptations of other cultures God’s used to demonize their cultures.
Even funnier, “Baal” worship, actually originated as one of the incredible number of early Semitic deities (most of which were Gods of lightning and wrath). When you ascribe the suffix ‘el’ to the end of a word it litterally refers to an aspect of the EL-ohim (Why you sometimes hear him called Elohim Szabaoth, or Adonai Elohim Shaddai) which indicates “of god” (GabriEL, MikaEL, BaEL). When Solomon united the tribes of Israel he brought them under a monotheistic umbrella to create a unified society.
It’s actually a formula but if you were to try and pronounce it Ye-hoov-ah would probably be more accurate, but theres a reason the Jews say Hashem and Adonai.
Whats interesting is if you place the character “Shin” (a resolutely feminine character) in the center of the 4 letters you end up with Yod Heh Shin Vauv Heh, or to put it bluntly: Yehoshovah (Or Jesus if you will).
Look up the rabbinical tale of the golem, it might shine some light on it. Removing the “Yod” character was said to cause the golem to turn back to dust. Also, study the pythagorean tetractys and it will start to become apparent how we got the ratios to make musical instruments and subsequently realized you could form them into a pentagram effectively giving birth to geometry and arithmetic (though pythagoras’ authorship is quite disputed).

If i’m not mistaken though, in the one verse where Jesus DOES mention hell he was literally talking about a place outside of jerusalem where they burned their refuse and garbage and would take criminals to “throw them to the pit”.
The daemon is a common idea mostly within Greek hermeticism (though the Tibetian ‘tulpa’ is similar) which indicates an intentional thoughtform produced to create specific effects.
Apparently the ring given to Solomon had this ineffible name inscribed within it which gave him dominion over 72 “intelligences” (later known as demons) each who rule over specific legions of lesser spirits who built the Temple of Israel (likely refering to slave labor). Interestingly in the Sepher Sephiroth there are 72 names of God which correlate. The mathematics behind it are quite interesting but aren’t usually apparent if you’re just used to hearing “God” and “Satan”.

Now, to understand why the lightbearer is important in contrast to he who has attained the form god intended for us you need to see that this has to to with knowledge, when we do not have the kowledge, we are not the light but we carry it in our bodies. We sin, we do actions that results in personal suffering and so on. We create our own prisons. The indians call this tranformation into light the name Atman, this is pure space of mind. Somehow, this knowledge was forgotten. Hence we had forgotten the knowledge of godhood or how to achieve godlikeness in your body and soul. This is an internal transformation, very ancient indeed.

The fact that Venus (Lucifer – light bringer) is associated with a “false light” is largely due to the fact that at certain times of the year the light of Venus outshines that of Sirius Major and other major focal points of navigation. Hence: The devil may lead you astray… What is interesting is the alignment of the constellation of Orion’s belt with the constilation Virgo (the virgin) which aligns with Venus (The bright and morning star) which locates the point at which the sun will rise between roughly Dec 23-25 indicating a correlation between Polaris (the pole star) and how the planetary wobble could be calculated given how the stars above you moved, however too close to the equator and during this period the “bright and morning star” “the light bearer” indicates a star that can be seen in the east which stands close enough to earths progression around the sun that it can be observed when the conditions are right. The “Magi” (Arab astronomers, alchemists, “wise ones”) brought Gold, emblem of the behest of the sun as well as the crown of metallurgy and likewise “alchemy”, frankincense (who’s sap must be brought from the tree with NAILS being driven into it, which coalesce as “tears”, and myrrh (you can just look up the greek myths from this point) . If you watch this event occurring it will appear as though the “three kings” of Orion’s belt follow the elliptical phases of the passing of Venus, indicating that they were guided to the place where the “Son will have risen” after the darkest period of night out of the year (for that region at least). Polaris maintains an almost fixed position with respect to the north pole (albeit the minor axis wobbling), this allegory, told through the ages from Akkadia to Assyria to Babalon, Egypt (where it seems he learned of a few of his ‘miracles’) – Dionysus, Apollo, Horus, et al. If you read the bible and actually pay attention to it (which is difficult to do without the original Greek and simetic languages – and it WAS mostly written in greek… – unless you take a look at the Nag Hammadi Libraries, Dead Sea Scrolls, or the Gnostic Gospels). What is obvious is that, like the myths of all the heavenly bodies, they are given names and assigned stories within allegorical teachings during a time before clear navigation had been established, they also give indications for the Mesopotamians as to when the land should be tilled, when the nile, tigris, or euphrates would be flooded, and how to align everything together in order to develop a sophisticated system of calculus. (Though the egyptian’s methods were far too complex, the Akkadian and Ancient Hebrew alphabets served much more precise indicators, given that the Zohar and Torah could be directly enumerated (hence, qabalah – and why they don’t teach it to freemason’s below a certain degree, which is strange to me as it’s achieved 33rd degree was given position of Grand Master of some quite prestigious masonic bodies wherein it is basic knowledge for the O.T.O or A.:.A.)
I had considered joining a local Scottish Rite Lodge after my brother (no pun intended) had been insisting upon my joining (so he could “speak of the secrets” – which is ironic because the only thing about Morals and Dogma that I had not been trying to get him into for the last decade were the very objects of the book it self – namely morals and dogma; which if you read past the 14th degree and have any grip on world religion, mythology, hermeticism, or mysticism in general, should be no suprise). BEWARE though, Pike’s southern bastardization of Hebrew pronunciation can make it difficult to align it with any more detailed investigation of the qabalah (start with Q.B.L. by Frater Achad or the Sefer Yetzirah). Also, don’t take Pike as the spokesperson for freemasonry, and remember that he was a product of his time in the south during the civil war. I have been to many a lodge meeting, they always serve up a wonderful dinner, but I could not lie by making oaths I was clearly opposed to (Aliegence to Country, Neo-liberal democracy a.k.a. tidy slavery, disclosure of all my personal information, amongst other things). There’s usually a lively discussion on masonic symbolism and an open tour of the temple if you’re so acclimated. Seeing as how we’re all so aquainted with the bible seeing the architectural resemblance should be no trouble. Sorry if there a few discrepancies here it’s been a little while since I discussed this branch of life.
The main reasons the Freemasons don’t talk about their shit beyond the lodge is about the same reason A.A. (Alcoholics Anonymous, not Argentinium Astrum) members pledge to preserve one another’s anonymity to, for example, reduce the persecution they have been receiving for years. Although clearly the Freemason’s have been more public in recent times, thanks largely to the freedom of assembly, speech, and religion (though not “technically” religious), there is still to this day (just judging from the comments on this forum) a great deal of social mistrust, particularly amongst christians in small denominations, which could lead to social, work, or other issues.
If anyone is actually interested in learning about the ORIGINS of the messianic cults of god-king sacrifice I highly recommend “The Golden Bough” by James C. Frazer. It’s pretty lengthy, perhaps 4-500 pages, but for anyone who’s still in doubt or feels threatened by that one there’s also “Man and His Symbols” by Carl Jung.

You are missing one thing at least.

If you read the Zohar, Vayigash 4 tells us that the letters Shin Kuf and Resh weren’t suitable to create the world by because they form the word “Shachar.”

Shachar means “lie” being the reason.

It is what is translated as “Morning Star” because it was a Canaanite goddess, with a twin named Shalim, and the word for the planet Venus in Hebrew-Aramaic.

But it means lie also. And Albert Pike could not have known this so his ideas on Lucifer, representing him as anything other than the King of Babylon show he is either a misinformed Mason who believes in extra Biblical myth, or a liar.

He knew the Zohar so must have read the language it was written in or at least enough about Judaism to know they don’t have a “Lucifer.”

And above all, Freemasonry is wannabe Kabbalah, Cainite Judaism for Gentiles and a quasi Jewish, to the point of subordination to Bnai Brith, organization dedicated to serving the Zionist cause.

Shachar is the parent of “Halal/Lucifer”, not a proper name in any language until the late Medieval era and books like Dante’s inferno.

    Halal ben Shachar.

    Halal son of Shachar.

    “Halal! son of (a) lie!”

Lucifer is Halal, it’s an adjective here, not a name and for a human not Satan.

He is a son of a lie.

A secret is kept by lying if necessary and usually secret society members are liars, it’s part of the gig. You can’t tell the truth after a while and it gets worse and worse.

Luciferianism isn’t about a fallen angel.

    It’s about a lie.

  140. Some random bypasser says:

    Dear Nicholas,

Yes, you are absolutely right on the topic of “lucifer”, in Hebrew the word that means “son of the morning” is rendered as Heylel or even Haylal, it is derived from an Archaic Hebrew root “Halal” which means to shine or shiny and it is an ancient word that is found across pretty much ALL Semitic languages in the Levant and is even used in modern day Semitic languages.

What I wanted to point out, something people rarely if ever notice, is *the fact* that G-D almighty points out, Himself, as THE one that causes evil, he is THE one that makes it happen and it is in plain sight for any individual to see:

    Isaiah 45:7
“I form the light, and create darkness: I make peace, and *create evil*: I the LORD do all these things”

Now some will say, but my NIV or my more recent translations do not render it as “evil” but as either calamity or some other variation, that may be so but, in the Hebrew, the word that is translated is none other than “Ra” which simply put means evil and you can pretty much cross reference it through the entire Tanakh and you will see that it does imply evil.

But, even if you think critically about all of this and consider the fact, whether “satan” or “lucifer” or what ever you want to call him, is THE entity that does evil, well, think again because in the book of Ayub/Job it is clear as day that shatan, as THE adversary, which by the way is also the exact meaning of “satan”, proposes to G-D in Heaven that he should tempt Ayub/Job to sin against G-D by causing evil to take place in his life and G-D allows it, so it IS G-D that decides what happens and what does not happen.

So all this pointing the finger at “satan” or “lucifer” and claiming that Freemasons are monsters that worship this deity that is all evil, well, it seems the people that make this claim clearly never read their Bible because it is the Bible itself that claims the exact opposite, are we now to doubt the Bible? Of course not, so grow up and accept the fact that Freemasons are not ALL evil people, even though there could be a few clandestine indviduals among them, it does NOT implicate the entire order as such.

  141. Albert Pike was right when he said that Lucifer is the light-bearer, and that is true. In the light of the Yazidi religion, we have Tausi Malak or the Peacock Angel , whom we worship, resembling Lucifer. He governs the Sky and Earth. That is why the Muslims hate the Yazidi religion and consider its followers as infidels.

  143. John Hayworth says:

Isaiah 14 does speak of Lucifer or Heylel being a human ruler who exalted himself as if he were God. It is also interesting that the Apostle Paul, in his 2nd epistles to the Thessalonians uses similar language to describe the coming of one who would precede the return of Christ:
“Now we beseech you, brethren, by the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, and by our gathering together unto him, That ye be not soon shaken in mind, or be troubled, neither by spirit, nor by word, nor by letter as from us, as that the day of Christ is at hand. Let no man deceive you by any means: for that day shall not come, except there come a falling away first, and that man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition; Who opposeth and exalteth himself above all that is called God, or that is worshipped; so that he as God sitteth in the temple of God, shewing himself that he is God.” (2 Thessalonians 2:1-4)

This is generally understood to mean the AntiChrist. So Isaiah 14 can also allude to the same person spoken of by Paul.

  144. Russel says:

I am also a freemason and I am inclined to agree with your research. Partially because the word “LUCIFER” in Latin “lucem ferre” means bringer or bearer of light. Now my curiosity was sparked that a Hebrew speaking land was using Latin in the KJV. This promotes the idea of mistranslation of words and ideas from one language to the other. With that being understood, Albert Pike was a person who studied many religions and many times attempted to find the commonality in each of them. This led to a lot of off subject thinking and speculation. He is not an authority on freemasonry. Period.

  145. Yaakov says:

A good place to learn about Judaism accurately from Orthodox real rabbi s is :Tenak Talk with rabbi Tovia Singer and Chabad.org.

Both are open and friendly to non Jews as righteous gentiles . The Torah and Tanakh Talmud clearly state that all righteous gentiles have an equal+ to Jews) good place in a new world to come when Messiah arrives …as in Isaiah 2 and 11…no one is born a sinner or condemned all have a chance to be forgiven through good deeds and prayers…no animal (blood)sacrifices needed ever for sins done on purpose … Free Masons helped protect Jews here in America and leased them space to pray in Southern states which forbade synagogue’s.

Sad how many hate Free Masons as well as us Jews based on church lies and dogma.

Look up” heretication.info” and show this to any hateful person and ask them to verify all on this list of atrocities . Then ask them who has been a negative force in the world..
    Shalom

  146. Tracy says:

“No wonder, for even Satan disguises himself as an angel of light.” – 2 Corinthians 11:14 …. Satan makes himself appear good to those who don’t know the Word of God. He is a master deceiver and the father of lies.

  147. Neal says:

So when those that are Judged scream “BUT I KNOW HOW THE NAME LUCIFER CAME ABOUT!”

    Will it save them?
